Marie Forleo (born December 7, 1975) [1] is an American entrepreneur. She is a New York Times bestselling author for the advice books, Everything is Figureoutable and Make Every Man Want You.[2] According to Harper's Bazaar, Forleo is a "self-made millionaire" that started her career "serving drinks, cleaning toilets, and waiting tables" as well as hip-hop dancing.[3][4]

In 2010, she founded Marie Forleo International.[4][5] She also started the online business program called B-School, which has worked with 55,000 people in 148 countries on their small businesses.[6][7][8] Forleo hosts and stars in MarieTV, a YouTube web series, and The Marie Forleo Podcast.[9]

Biography

Forleo was raised in New Jersey. She graduated as valedictorian from Seton Hall University with a degree in business finance in 1997.[10]

She is married to actor Josh Pais.[6]

Career

After graduating from college, Forleo became a trading assistant on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).[11][10] She left the NYSE to work for Gourmet and Mademoiselle.[11][10] In 2001, she established a newsletter and gained subscribers and coaching clients from relationships she formed while bartending and instructing fitness and dance classes.[11][12][13] She became one of the first Nike Elite Dance Athletes in 2005.[12] She starred in the dance fitness videos such as Crunch: Cardio Dance Blast in 2005 and Prevention Fitness Systems - Dance Yourself Thin in 2006.[14]

In 2008, Forleo released Make Every Man Want You: How to Be So Irresistible You'll Barely Keep from Dating Yourself!. The book has been published in 16 languages.[15] The following year, she founded Marie Forleo International, a business coaching practice.[5] She also started an online business course called B-School, which has educated 55,000 people in 148 countries on their small businesses.[7][8][16] In 2009, Forleo was interviewed by Tony Robbins as a marketing expert for his "The New Money Masters" series and in 2011, Sir Richard Branson invited Forleo to mentor young entrepreneurs at his Centre for Entrepreneurship.[17][18] That year, Forleo launched MarieTV, a web television show.[12] In 2012, Forleo appeared on a SuperSoul Sunday discussion about life and spirituality with Oprah Winfrey, Gabrielle Bernstein, and Mastin Kipp.[19]

She spoke at the Life Is Beautiful conference in 2014.[20] Later that year, her company, Marie Forleo International, was listed on Inc's list of top 500 fastest growing private companies.[21] Inc. also named Marie Forleo International as one of the top 50 fastest growing female-led companies.[22]

Forleo starred in the 5-part docuseries, Transcendence: Live Life Beyond the Ordinary, in 2018, and in the documentary, We Rise Up, in 2019.[23][24] In September 2019, Forleo released Everything is Figureoutable: One Simple Belief to Create Unstoppable Success, which was based on her concept on Oprah Winfrey's SuperSoul Sessions. The book was a New York Times bestseller.[16][25]

In 2020, Forleo came under fire[26] for her response to the murder of George Floyd, when she shut down comments in her Facebook community, removing comments from Black community members, and urging customers to discuss the matter privately. [27] Hundreds of customers left her B-School [28] community in protest, citing Forleo’s history of remaining silent on social issues. Forleo takes full responsibility for her mistake in this apology letter.[29] Forleo declares her "full support of the Black community and the Black Lives Matter movement" and offers a clear action plan that she and her team implemented after this incident.
