The song was released to radio stations in Russia as a promotional single on July 26, 2017 reaching number one in the biggest radio station in the country, XИT FM.[2] It peaked at number 18 on Russia's official radio chart "Top Radio Hits" with 140,478 spins from 578 different cities. Even though it has no streams on YouTube because of not receiving any lyric or music videos, the song peaked at number 25 on Russia's official Top Radio & YouTube Hits chart only with radio spins. It marked a huge increase of spins between September 18, 2017 and October 1, 2017 in Russia, jumping to number 100 from 254 on Top Radio Hits chart, and number 140 from 337 on Top Radio & YouTube Hits chart.[3]

Launch and promotion

Katy first performed the song during a karaoke party in France, and fans asked her to rip it out as a single. Meanwhile, "Roulette" was broadcast on radio stations around the world, including Russian ones. Here he achieved incredible success, reaching number 1 in the rankings, beating the remix of "Attention" by Charlie Puth. The latter was so impressed with the result of "Roulette" that he decided to collaborate with Katy Perry in the future. The singer accepted and in 2019 began to write with him "Small Talk" published in the same year[4]. "Roulette" at the end of the year fell seventeen positions in the ranking, placing the eighteenth in the ranking of best - selling singles in Russia and receiving platinum in Russia[5].

Critical reception

The song was received very positively by specialist critics. Alessandro Buzzella of RnbJunk defines it as "The most powerful halftime of the project", and also adds "Surely the most suitable song as the next single, "Roulette" has all the characteristics to be a hit: base of the 80s and hits very interesting, fresh and catchy, pre-chorus chorus. Perry's performance is also very brave, which makes the song staff less flat. Promoted to great success[6]. In the end, however, Katy Perry did not extract the song as a single, and this caused the fire of fans. In a tweet about the worst mistakes of Katy Perry's career, many fans responded that among them was not releasing "Roulette" as a single[7]. OndaRock indicated that the song was similar to those of Lady Gaga's song, more precisely to "The Fame" but with a melodic cut capable of keeping Lady Gaga's song at a distance[8].

Live performances

Katy Perry performed the song live during Witness: The Tour, as an opening act along with part of "Witness". Giant dice from the game were used during the performance, with dancers jumping from one to another and fireworks.
