Artur Kayumov (Russian: Артур Каюмов, born 14 February 1998) is a Russian professional ice hockey forward currently playing for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Kontinental Hockey League.[1]
Playing career
He was picked by the Chicago Blackhawks 50th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
During the 2018–19 season, while playing in his first full season with Lokomotiv, Kayumov was suspended by the KHL for 13 games for illegally delivering a check to the head of Jokerit's Jesper Jensen and then inadvertently punching a referee in the face.[2]
Controversy
On November 1, 2021, Artur posted a picture showing him wearing a halloween costume that was widely perceived as racist. The picture shows him dressed with an Arab Keffiyeh over his head and he is wearing a traditional men’s prayer dress. He is also carrying what appears to be an assault rifle. A woman pictured with him is wearing a sari, which is a traditional Indian outfit. Saris are not typically associated with Arabic culture. The costume was described as, "not only a racist costume, but an ignorant one as well" in a Yahoo Sports article.[3]
