He is pursuing his Ph.D. His MPhil thesis was on the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots.

Activism

Spread headed the Protest of Tata Institute of Social Sciences for 129 days against Fee Hike.[4]

Fahad led a remarkable protest for more than 100 days[5][6] with more than 1000 students against the rolling back of the fee waiver for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Class[7] students during his tenure as the General secretary of the TISS student union in 2017-18.[8] That protest caught mainstream media’s attention.[9][10] Prakash Ambedkar also supported students for this.[11]

Leading the Anti CAA Movement in Mumbai[12]

Fahad is Mumbai’s face of Anti-CAA protests and has attended several rallies across the country in the past two months.[13][14] He rose to popularity due to his oratory skills, relentless updates on social media and hard-hitting Anti-CAA speeches.[15] He was a part of the occupy Wankhede silent protest that happened during the India vs Australia ODI series.[16][17] “For once, we firmly believe sports and politics cannot be separate. Who knows, we may not be able to watch cricket the way we do once NRC and CAA comes into effect in India,” he added. Ahmad in the statement called the CAA ‘Unconstitutional’. He said ‘NPR and NRC’ are ‘anti-poor and anti-minority’. Fahad leads the student group Mumbai Against CAA, which mobilised many thousands for the iconic and historical August Kranti Maidan protest.[18][19][20] B. G. Kolse Patil, Kumar Ketkar, Swara Bhasker, Richa Chaddha were also present.[21][22]

Social Activities

Fighting against hunger during COVID-19 Lockdown

Fahad worked with over 100 volunteers to distribute food kits across eight centres in Mumbai slums. More than 1,000 was distributed in Mumbai.[23] Along with Ahmad, other students from TISS and International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), have been raising money through crowdfunding, and every Saturday evening they provided food packets to 210 families. The group also distributed around 100 sanitisers to on-duty police personnels.[24]

Controversies

TISS Mumbai denies Students clearance, Fahad refusing to accept MPhil Degree from S. Ramadorai in Convocation.[25][26][27][28] Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai denied registration in the Ph.D. programme to Fahad for declining to receive his M.Phil Degree from Chairperson S. Ramadorai during the convocation ceremony.[29][30] The order dated July 25th 2018, describes Fahad’s action as an ‘insult’ to TISS and coupled it with his involvement in the protest against TISS administration that started in February that year.[31][32][33]
