I have a question for you.

Did the Russian mafia exist in the 1920s-1970s and if not, why not? (199.116.102.120 (talk) 22:23, 2 November 2021 (UTC)199.116.102.120)[reply]

Well in terms of many modern legal systems hardly I can imagine any organized groups during post-civil war of 20s when the country was basically rising it up from ashes or when 30s' mass repressions brought the whole nation to its knees just before being torn apart in WWII of 40s... Later in 50s and 60s the communist party was a major "mafia" group which basically ruled everyone and everything. Except of cases like Soviet fur mafia (mostly fabricated) I dunno any real crime groups. Soviet regime of 60-90s considered a mere commercial trading as a crime so we can't reliably classify such cases into classical mafia... AXONOV (talk) 22:42, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the world of non-admin closures!

Hi there! I noticed your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fayat Group. Welcome to the world of non-admin closures! Please remember to sign your closing statement, though.

I would recommend using a gadget like Wikipedia:XFDcloser, which automates the process and takes care of those little details. Good luck! -- Aervanath (talk) 20:18, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to take part in a survey about medical topics on Wikipedia

Dear fellow editor,

I am Piotr Konieczny, a sociologist of new media at Hanyang University (and User:Piotrus on Wikipedia). I would like to better understand Wikipedia's volunteers who edit medical topics, many associated with the WikiProject Medicine, and known to create some of the highest quality content on Wikipedia. I hope that the lessons I can learn from you that I will present to the academic audience will benefit both the WikiProject Medicine (improving your understanding of yourself and helping to promote it and attract new volunteers) and the wider world of medical volunteering and academia. Open access copy of the resulting research will be made available at WikiProject's Medicine upon the completion of the project.

All questions are optional. The survey is divided into 4 parts: 1 - Brief description of yourself; 2 - Questions about your volunteering; 3 - Questions about WikiProject Medicine and 4 - Questions about Wikipedia's coverage of medical topics.

Please note that by filling out this questionnaire, you consent to participate in this research. The survey is anonymous and all personal details relevant to your experience will be kept private and will not be transferred to any third party.

I appreciate your support of this research and thank you in advance for taking the time to participate and share your experiences! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at my Wikipedia user page or through my email listed on the survey page (or by Wikipedia email this user function).

The survey is accessible through the LINK HERE.

Essay

Hi, I recently read your essay and I love it! I've been the victim of some of my articles deleted by deletionists. I don't understand the pride they have for deleting content from Wikipedia. Today, I stumbled across deletionism's opposite, inclusionism, and I 100% believe in this "wikideology" (I made that word up). Anyway, I just wanted to stop by and say hello. Happy January! Dswitz10734 (talk) 19:59, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm glad to hear that mate!
I'd say that the deletionits abuse their privilege to remove (un)sourced materials because they simply can. Essays don't work and fundamental rules are loose. Wikipedia fools many of us into wasting our valuable time, but doesn't explicitly tell that there is little guarantee material survives. Given all that, like many did before (e.g. Matt Britt) I will consider to dial down my activity here in the near future and will probably retire completely later. I would advise you to do so as well. It's horrible that such a huge project which basically monopolized the internet, didn't hardwire the rules in such a way that nobody can bend them. Thank you and Happy New Year!
