A tag has been placed on Ibm mainframe expanded storage, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. IIRC Workload Manager was part of the original MVS - I remember an IBM colleague enthusing at the time (mid-1970s) about its ability to absorb more work without delaying high-priority tasks ("there is no upper limit!"). The problem about such ancient computer history of course is references - do you have any ideas? Philcha (talk) 01:42, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually it was SRM rather than WLM that did all that in the 1970s. Martin Packer (talk) 10:31, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SRM = System Resources Manager? Philcha (talk) 13:47, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, pretty much. Might be "Resource" singular. But then we just call it SRM. :-) Martin Packer (talk) 10:36, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Philcha (talk) 12:53, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Virtual memory

[edit]

Hi, I'd be grateful if you'd look at Virtual memory and edit as necessary. I found an article that explained z/OS virtual memory and it's a whole lot more complicated than anything currently described in Virtual memory. It is possible to described z/OS' approach in terms that won't confuse general readers? You're much better qualified to deal with this than I am. Philcha (talk) 11:40, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! Do remind me if I don't do it within the next (say) month. I'm likely to forget. :-) Martin Packer (talk) 14:35, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this is a reminder (hope you had a good New Year!). Philcha (talk) 16:48, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History of IBM mainframe operating systems

[edit]

A while ago a I started re-organising the articles on IBM mainframe OSs, with History of IBM mainframe operating systems as the root, after discussing the idea extensively with Kubanczyk. But Kubanczyk's gone elsewhere for the last 2 months. I'd be grateful if you'd act as my adviser and reviewer.

The "project" is currently stalled on the issue of how far we can go in merging OS/360 and descendants into 1 article. Specifically, can we roll up MVS and all its descendants except z/OS into OS/360 and successors? As far as I can see the main issue is whether there's enough referenced content about MVS/xxx to make separate articles necessary (see my discussion with Kubanczyk). The only source I've been able to find is MVS... a long history and subsequent pages - but I dont' know how reliable these pages are and don't know how long they'll stay online. Given the nature of your professional specialism I hope you'll be able to advise on this and to provide suitable refs.

After that the next big issue will be how far to roll up into "DOS/360 and successors" (not yet started) the existing material about DOS/VS etc. (except z/VSE). Then I'll start looking at the evolution of VM starting with CTSS. Finally I'll try to learn enough about the airlines OSs (PARS to z/TPF) to write something half decent about these. Philcha (talk) 17:05, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anything with "MVS" in it is "MVS", as is OS/390 and z/OS. And so, probably, is "OS/VS2". But the rest probably are best regarded as other IBM mainframe operating systems. Though all are ultimately related to S/360. I'm afraid I know little of the other mainframe operating systems. A good place to call for volunteers to work on this is the IBM-MAIN Newsgroup. Modern definition of MVS?

[edit]

Modern definition of MVS? asks if "MVS" now means the non-Unix/POSIX parts of z/OS. If you can shed light on this, please respond at Modern definition of MVS? Philcha (talk) 20:15, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Twhirl

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Twhirl requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Peterpipper (talk) 18:33, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. You are receiving this note as you are a member of this WikiProject. Currently there is not much of activity in the project and I am hoping to revive the project with your help. I have made a few changes to the project page Diff. You are welcome to make suggestions of improvement / changes in the design. I have also make a proposal to AutoTagg articles with {{WikiProject Computing}} for the descendant wikiprojects articles also. Please express your opinion here -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 12:54, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rock music WikiProject

[edit]

I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Rock music WikiProject. There's alot of Rock-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help us get this project off the ground and a few Rock music pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks! --Be Black Hole Sun (talk) 20:48, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Queen WikiProject

[edit]

Hello, I am leaving you this message as part of a personal effort to revive the Queen WikiProject of which you are listed as a participant. If you are not interested in committing yourself to contributing to Queen related articles please go about removing yourself from the participants list on the project page. On the other hand if you are interested in the project and do wish to contribute, I encourage you to head over to the project's talk page to work towards outstanding tasks and share ideas on how Queen-related articles may be improved.

Thanks for reading this, and I look forward to your response. Such a legendary group deserves to be honoured with quality articles on Wikipedia and it is a great shame such a project has gone inactive.

May 2013

[edit]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to IBM mainframe expanded storage may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 20:01, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
