Hello, Le Deluge,

It would really help things if when you tagged a page for deletion, like this empty category, if you would post a notification on the talk page of the page creator. This is done easily by using Twinkle to tag pages for any kind of deletion (CSD, PROD, AFD/CFD/RFD/etc.). Twinkle is very easy to use and when you install it, it creates at tab at the top of your menu marked "TW" that you just pull down to tag pages for just about anything. As long as you set up your Twinkle Preferences to "Notify page creator", then Twinkle will post these notifications on your behalf. Thank you very much for considering making use of it in the future. Thanks for fixing the category!

I didn't know you are not allowed to add non-user categories to your userpage. Sorry. HelloHamburger (talk) 01:49, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@HelloHamburger: Don't worry about it, it's one of those rules that's not very well known and it's not enforced systematically. As you can see I didn't sit down and disable all the categories in your usedboxes because life's too short. Although WP:USERNOCAT applied and is the quick way to justify disabling Category:Wikipedia humor, I guess the real reason was that a (proto-)user page should only have Wikipedian categories on it, Category:Wikipedia humor is intended only for things like essay pages. Le Deluge (talk) 13:31, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Le Deluge Is it possible to keep the message associated with it up, or does it have to go down too? HelloHamburger (talk) 01:54, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@HelloHamburger: I'm not quite sure what message you're referring to? Le Deluge (talk) 09:44, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I believe I meant the userbox that is at the top of the page for the Humor category. HelloHamburger (talk) 16:59, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pokemon categories

Why did you remove half of my List of generation II pokemon categories? 2601:98A:201:8C90:0:0:0:F98E (talk) 04:15, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@2601:98A:201:8C90:0:0:0:F98E: For exactly the reason I explained in my summary on the edit - you had added a ton of red links to non-existent categories, which contravenes WP:REDNOT - the rules on category red links are different to article red links. But more generally, you should avoid WP:OVERCATEGORISATION - 3-5 categories are sufficient, categories are not intended to be metatags that are sprayed around indisciminately. Read WP:DEFINING for a better idea on when to use a category. (oh, and it would be much easier to contact you if you had a username) Le Deluge (talk) 12:40, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You could’ve renamed the actegories to ones with actual links because of some of the Pokémon are those species. 2601:98A:201:8C90:0:0:0:F98E (talk) 21:06, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, that's not my job. And as I say, it's not just that the categories don't exist, it's the fact that the article has waaayyy too many categories already. There is an argument that you should only put eg Category:Fictional goats on a list article if there are only goats on the list, otherwise a non-goat is getting categorised as a goat. A single Category:fictional animals category is probably more appropriate in this case, and only the redirects to it should get single-species categories. But I'll say again - avoid WP:OVERCATEGORISATION - 3-5 categories are sufficient. Le Deluge (talk) 21:32, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe you can add these categories to the redricts then. 2601:98A:201:8C90:0:0:0:F98E (talk) 22:09, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
