Aikatsu Planet! The Movie (Japanese: 劇場版 アイカツプラネット!, Hepburn: Gekijōban Aikatsu Puranetto!) is a 2022 Japanese live-action/animated musical dance short film based on a television series with a same name created by BN Pictures. The short film is directed by Ryuichi Kimura, written by Misuzu Chiba, and produced by BN Pictures. The short film was released in Japan on July 15, 2022 as a double feature with a 25-minute short, Aikatsu! 10th Story: Starway to the Future.[2]

Sypnopsis

Few months after the Planet Princess Grand Prix, Mao's schedule is packed, and in return for the gratitude for the fans, she launches "Aikatsu Planet! Gratitude Festival".

Production

On October 2021, it was announced on Sunrise Festival Regeneration 2021 that Aikatsu Planet! live-action/animated television series will receive a film adaptation, with director Ryuichi Kimura, and screenwriter Misuzu Chiba returning from the television series for the film.[3] On April 2021, the official website revealed that animation character designer Risa Miyadani will return for the film.[2][4]

Release

The short film was released in theaters in Japan on July 15, 2022 as a double feature with 25-minute short, Aikatsu! 10th Story: Starway to the Future.[2]

Reception

Box office

The short film failed to make it to the top 10 in the Japanese box office.[5]

Aikatsu! 10th Story: Starway to the Future (アイカツ! 10th STORY 未来へのSTARWAY, Aikatsu! 10th Sutōri: Mirai e no Sutāwai) is a 2022 Japanese animated musical dance short film based on Aikatsu! series created by BN Pictures. The short is directed by Ryuichi Kimura, written by Yoichi Kato, and produced by BN Pictures.

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Aikatsu! franchise, the short is set after the series finale, and follows Ichigo, Aoi and Ran's path after their final year at Starlight School.[2][4] A sequel is in development, and will be released in early 2023.[7]

Synopsis

While Akari is shining brightly as Starlight Queen, her and Ichigo just had a successful live event as a duo, "Cosmos". As Ichigo is in her third year at Starlight School's high school division, her, Aoi and Ran must take their paths with caution for whay lies ahead.
