Mister Maker is a British children's television series commissioned by Michael Carrington at the BBC for CBeebies.[1] The series launched in 2007[2] and also aired on BBC One and BBC Two. In the United States and Latin America the series was broadcast on the Discovery Familia network, dubbed in Spanish and in Portuguese in Brazil.[3] In Canada, the series aired on Treehouse TV from 2008 to 2012 and TVOKids from 2013 to 2021. To date three series had been commissioned from The Foundation (part of RDF Media).[2][4] It also aired in Australia on ABC2. The series comprises a mixture of animation, CGI and live action. The titular "Mister Maker" character was portrayed by Phil Gallagher, who also created and narrated the series. There are 20 episodes in the series. The episodes don’t have regular titles. Instead the titles are episode 1 to episode 20. Four spin-offs followed: Mister Maker Comes to Town, Mister Maker Around the World, Mister Maker's Arty Party, and Mister Maker at Home, which began airing in 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2020, respectively.

Episode format

Every episode has the following sequence:

  • Creative Idea - Art or craft.
  • The Shapes Dance (or "I Am a Shape") - The Shapes dance leading to one of them presenting a puzzle.
  • Make It in a Minute - Timed 1-minute art or craft.
  • The Colour Kids - They make a picture using their clothes.
  • Frame-It! - Calm time to make usually a nice relaxing picture to put in a frame.
  • Random Picture - Either a messy picture or pictures made by objects.
  • Another Creative Idea - Another art or craft.
  • Time To Go - Tocky the bird tells Mister Maker it’s the end of the show.
  • Mister Maker exits the studio - appears in white room seen in intro.
  • Black Bar within 6 minutes 20 seconds - Put away studio back in its box.

The show ends with Tocky telling Mister Maker to go and then shows him "putting away all this stuff back in its box" (meaning the studio's objects are to be put away).
