Churton Park (often called CP by Students) is a suburb located in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. Churton Park is a new, wealthy and upper-middle class suburb located in the Northern Suburbs district of Wellington, 1.5 km north of Johnsonville. The suburb includes over 1500 households, 'Churton Park' (a recreational sports field) and a primary school. In the wake of New Zealand's recovery from the 1987 sharemarket crash, Churton Park gained a reputation for being a safe neighbourhood. During the 1990s, many families with young children chose to build new houses in the area. Despite in-jokes among residents of the Northern Suburbs that Churton Park has a Crips set and that Newlands has a Piru set, Churton Park maintains its reputation as a safe neighbourhood. SchoolsChurton Park School is an upper class [citation needed] Primary School. It has a very credible reputation within and outside the community and the schools roll has increasingly gotten bigger as well as the size of the school with many renovations within the last 10 years. Its zoning policy/area was reduced in 2006 to cope with the increasing roll. There are no Intermediate Schools or Colleges within the area, so many students attend Raroa Normal Intermediate, Newlands Intermediate and Onslow College and Newlands College; all within the local Johnsonville and Newlands area. GeographyThe geography of the land is quite hilly and has dense bush in some areas that have not been excavated for housing sub-divisions. Steep hills eventually extend over to the Ohariu Valley nearby.  External Links |
