Shalini Passi is an Indian art and design collector, art, design and fashion patron, philanthropist, art advisor and an artist based in New Delhi. Passi is as well the creative director of Pasco group of companies.[1][2]
Passi held an exhibition called The Warp and Weft of Perception and a solo art exhibition of paintings, Through my Eyes, at the Visual Arts Gallery in New Delhi.[3][4]
Shalini's art collection includes works by Indian contemporary artists including Riyas Komu,[5] M. F. Husain[2] Anita Dube,[6] Zarina Hashmi, Subodh Gupta,[7] and Atul Dodiya, and Bharti Kher[5] as well as international artists including Jeff Koons,[8] Damien Hirst, and Vladimir Kagan.[9][10]
Art
Passi is a member of the Advisory Board of Khoj (the not-for-profit contemporary arts organisation based in Delhi) since 2012,[11] which facilitates and supports the development of experimental contemporary art practice in India and South Asia. She is also a patron of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.[4]
In 2018, Passi started her own foundation, The Shalini Passi Art Foundation, and MASH[12] which explores the intersection of the arts and promotes emerging artists in India.[3][13]
Passi regularly loans works from her collection to exhibitions and art events, including Kusum by Mrinalini Mukherjee, which was loaned to the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in 2018.[14]
In September 2022, Passi organised MASH Young Artists’ Exhibition: Fleeting Identities which aimed at fostering search for and recognize visual artists with an unfiltered and transparent process of Open Call.[15][16] From the open call, ten artists were shortlisted to showcase their works at India International Centre, New Delhi, from 19 September to 29 September 2022. Passi also documented the culture and lives of the unsuspecting locals of Pahalgam in a series of photographs for the exhibition, Known Unknown: Pahalgam.[17]
In December 2022, Passi put on an exhibition of photographs called Forever Delhi: A Series of Black and White Photographs at the Architectural Digest Design at BKC complex in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and consequently at India Design Fair in 2023.[18][19]
In February 2023, Passi’s digital media platform MASH supported a multimedia audio-visual installation, Breath, which was created by Indian artist Ranbir Kaleka exhibited under the Studio Section at India Art Fair 2023.
Philanthropy
Since 2010, Passi has been involved in educating underprivileged children in Delhi, through workshops that provide opportunities for children to learn about arts and crafts. She supports the Delhi Society for the Welfare of Special Children.[3]
In February 2021, Shalini Passi, with her spouse Sanjay Passi, donated Ten Crore Rupees to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.[20][21]
In 2021, Passi raised funds for Covid Relief India by organising an online exhibition.[22][23]
