"The Narcissist" is a song by British rock band Blur, it was first released on May 18, 2023 as the lead single for the bands ninth studio album The Ballad of Darren. Upon the tracks release, it marked the first new material by the band in eight years with 2015's The Magic Whip.[3]

Reception

Alex Petridis of The Guardian liked the track giving 4 out of 5 stars, calling the track far less counfounding and straightforward than "Go Out", the lead single of the bands previous record, The Magic Whip. He also called the rhythm track and beat Motorik-esque.[4]

Mollie Potter of The Edge also enjoyed the track, giving it 4.5 stars out of 5. Calling the track overall a "brilliant, crafty acknowledgement of their past triumphs, alongside a recognition of their growth as a band in the decades following their nineties heydey".[5]

Christopher Jackson of City A.M. liked the track, describing the track as a soundtrack to the summer.[6]

Pitchfork also gave the track song of the week on May 19, 2023, calling it "an odyssey that builds but never implodes".[7]
