Bob Bryar

Bob Bryar, born December 31, 1979 in Chicago, Illinois, is the drummer for My Chemical Romance. He joined the band in late 2004 to replace old drummer Matt Pelissier.

Music

Bob met My Chemical Romance when he was a Sound Tech for the band The Used. Brian Schechter, the band's manager has said "Bob looooves My Chemical Romance" because he traveled with them for free a few times. Once the drummer was kicked out, they asked him to join them and he accepted, although this was not official until after he participated in the old school version of the video for the song "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)", where he quoted "I was just the dude playing drums". His first rehearsal with the rest of the guys was the day before the video was made.

Contrary to popular belief, the drumming in Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge was recorded by My Chemical Romance's old drummer, not Bob. His first studio record ever was The Black Parade which the band started working on when they were touring with Green Day.

Injuries

During the filming of the video for The Black Parade's second single: "Famous Last Words", the band appears playing in front of a huge fire, burning down the float they used for their previous one, "Welcome To The Black Parade". They wanted to be as close as they could to the fire so Bob, being on the back, got the most of the heat and resulted with a 3rd. degree burn in the back of his leg. The exact moment when they finish playing and Bob runs to check his burnt, can be seen at the end of the Making Of.

Due to this injury and Gerard's ankle injury (also caused in the filming of the video), My Chemical Romance had to cancel their performance in Street Scene Festival 2006. A few weeks later, right after their opening performance for the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, Bob had to be rushed to the hospital because his leg's infection had reached his blood and face, almost reaching his brain. This meant they had to cancel another couple of shows.

After this, Bob has remained healthy and played every show of their European, Australian, Asian and US tour.
