Caucasian calendar
[edit]Nunuxxx, why do you think that the Abkhaz correspond to "Other Asian Nationalities/Chistians"? There were some Muslim Abkhaz left in Sukhum okrug and there might be a small number of other "Other Asian Nationalities" who happened to be Christian. We shouldn't add interpretations which are absent in the original. Alaexis¿question? 11:05, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Alaexis, I'm basing these links on actual historical data from the 1897 Imperial Russian Census, from 20 years earlier and the 1926 Soviet Census from 10 years after the Calendar. After assessing these sources, it is evident the only Christians (apart from Russians, Armenians and Georgians) here were Orthodox Abkhazians and Greeks, the former being the majority of the "Other Asian Nationalities", therefore, I believe linking them to the "Abkhazian people" page is accurate, however, if you are not satisfied with this, I would be open to inserting a note that there is a significant Greek presence included in the figure as well, I believe that would be most helpful and informative for the reader. Cheers. Nunuxxx (talk) 11:22, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. I agree that the Abkhaz constituted the overwhelming majority of "Other Asian Nationalities/Chistians." We just need to be careful with WP:OR. We can't write this as a fact if the source does not explicitly say it. By the way the Greek could have been included in "Other Europeans." Alaexis¿question? 12:12, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- I understand, I'm rather new to writing articles so I'll leave this issue to your discretion, if you prefer to remove the link and insert a advisory/speculatory note regarding the ethnic makeup. On the topic of Greeks: I'm near certain they were included as "Other Asian Nationalities" in "Christians" as evidenced in the Kars Oblast statistics, as well as in the Tiflis Governorate, and other provinces by their significant numbers. I believe this was on the basis of them being considered native/indigenous to Asia Minor (in Asia) so they are listed as an "Asian Nationality". Conversely, Caucasus Germans present in the Elisabethpol and Tiflis Governorates are clearly natives of Western Europe, hence they are included in the "Other Europeans" figure. I hope my explanation was adequate. Cheers Nunuxxx (talk) 01:53, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, I think that an explanatory note would work. Could you add them to other articles to which you added this information? Alaexis¿question? 12:52, 15 November 2021 (UTC)

Article name
[edit]Hello Wikipedians, as you may know, the common, prevailing theme for Russian Imperial province article names in English Wikipedia is their commonly-appearing Anglicisation in English sources. For example, the more common "Ardahan Okrug" is used instead of the transliterated "Ardagan Okrug" or "Ardaganskii Okrug" (there is no "h" in Russian, it usually is replaced by "g" or "kh"), therefore, to determine the article title for the Sukhumi Okrug, the most-commonly appearing spelling/Anglicisation in English language sources should be found, which is commonly done on Wikipedia by counting the search results from searching each variation on Google Ngram, Google Scholar, and Google Advanced Book Search, per WP:SET.
- Google Ngram Search
- Google Scholar Search
- –"Sukhum okrug": 8 results
- –"Sukhumi okrug": 9 results
- Google Advanced Book Search, per WP:SET (hide “Tools” to see totals):
- -"Sukhum okrug": 246 results
- -"Sukhumi okrug": 256 results
From tallying these results, it is evident that "Sukhumi Okrug" with 265 results is the more commonly appearing variant in English sources (compared with "Sukhum Okrug" with 11 fewer results) and thus the easiest for readers to find and piece-together in their understanding of the districts of the Caucasus Viceroyalty (1801-1917). In conclusion, it can be inferred from the results that the most commonly-appearing Anglicisation of the district, "Sukhumi Okrug", should be used in the article title, however, due to the significant usage of "Sukhum Okrug", it is worthwhile to make mention the variant spelling in the article. -Nunuxxx (talk) 04:12, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
