A shire reeve (Sheriff) was an Anglo-Saxon official responsible for the administration of a royal estate. The Anglo Saxon mill would have been a lot simpler than the present mill, possibly using a Roman turbine-like mechanism—GrahamSmith (talk) 13:32, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
