output size
[edit]German wikipedia says in de:pngcrush's article, that OptiPNG creates smaller files than pngcrush does. Is there some source we could refer to? ~~bmhm
- OptiPNG and PNGCrush use the same compression methods, and can run trials over the same set of options. If OptiPNG can output a file of a certain size, PNGCrush should be able to do it too, with the right settings. Perhaps the only significant difference in terms of file size is that OptiPNG allows automatic reduction from full-color/alpha to 256 colors where possible, while PNGCrush doesn't. This could potentially see OptiPNG creating a smaller file, if you give each program a PNG that OptiPNG can reduce. But rather than just say that OptiPNG creates smaller files, it would probably be better to mention the lossless palette reduction specifically. CountingPine (talk) 13:32, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
