Removed information

[edit]

I removed the information mentioning the two reasons as shelter and protection. They seem to be interchangeable and aren't two distinct reasons. If there was some notable outside source that mentioned them like this, then it might make sense to have it back in there. Dreambeaver (talk) 21:31, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Covered bridge says "The purpose of the covering is to protect the wooden structural members from the weather. Uncovered wooden bridges typically have a lifespan of only 20 years because of the effects of rain and sun, but a covered bridge could last 100 years." This says that the bridge structure is protected from the weather. When people and horses cross a covered bridge, they are also sheltered from the weather. The "two reasons as shelter and protection" are both correct reasons for covered bridges. --Dthomsen8 (talk) 21:48, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
