As far as I know, the most common use for error concealment, and the reason I came here, is in CD players when ECC fails. Yet that doesn't seem to be discussed at all. The reason for the interest is discussion about merging FEC and ECC, but since FEC can be done without ECC, I think they can stay separate. That leaves the question about what to do when ECC fails.
