Merger proposal

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was to merge. Chidgk1 (talk) 15:41, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I propose to merge Greenhouse gas emissions accounting into Greenhouse gas inventory. I think that the content in the Greenhouse gas emissions accounting article can easily be explained in the context of Greenhouse gas inventory, and the Greenhouse gas inventory article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Greenhouse gas emissions accounting will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. Short description does not quite match with hatnote

[edit]

The short description "inventory of how much greenhous gases are emitted for a process" does not quite match with the hatnote "about inventorying greenhouse gases from countries, regions and cities". Not really sure what they should be but hopefully someone has an idea and can change one or both. Chidgk1 (talk) 06:27, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've made some small changes to the short description and to the hatnote, please see if you agree. EMsmile (talk) 12:13, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Overlap with carbon footprint

[edit]

I am currently working on the carbon footprint article which now also includes a bit on the issue of consumption-based accounting versus production-based accounting. I realised only today that some of the discussions around that are laid out quite nicely here. For anyone interested in this topic, please head over there to carbon footprint to help and to also ensure both articles fit well together. (it seems to me that this article is quite good and detailed but that it hasn't been updated with newer publications and data for a while). EMsmile (talk) 12:16, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In the section of ==Emissions embodied in international trade==

[edit]

The wording go as "Figure 1 and Table 3 show extent of emissions embodied in international trade and thus their importance when attempting emissions reductions. Figure 1 shows the international trade flows of the top 10 countries...." I'm wonderding what Figure is for here? Can anyone help enlighten me? Thanks. --ThomasYehYeh (talk) 08:12, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This probably needs tidying up as those figures were moved or deleted later? This article needs some work, I hadn't really paid attention to it before. Step 1 that I would to is to try and reorganise it to have standing main level headings. Pinging User:Dtetta and User:Chidgk1 in case they are interested. EMsmile (talk) 10:35, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t have any problem falling asleep thanks Chidgk1 (talk) 14:13, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Em, I guess this means you are not interested in this article... I'll ask on the talk page of WikiProject climate change for advice on what to do with this article. It overlaps so much with others. EMsmile (talk) 15:24, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for the way forward

I am struggeling with the article greenhouse gas inventory. It might contain some useful content but doesn't it overlap a lot with carbon footprint, carbon accounting and greenhouse gas emissions? Wondering if some of its content should be moved/condensed/updated and then the article could be re-focused. Pinging User:Dtetta. EMsmile (talk) 15:30, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agree the article needs a lot of work. I think it should focus largely on national/international government inventory efforts. The production/consumption aspects could be shortened, IMO, buy they are still relevant to GHG inventory work. There is some overlap in these concepts, but that is what the “See also” links are for. I think they are largely distinct, and are all techniques in the more general field of measuring and assigning responsibility for greenhouse gas emissions. Dtetta (talk) 20:45, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll copy your comments across to the talk page of greenhouse gas inventory and hope that someone will have time in future to work on this. I also think the production/consumption aspects could be shortened but I am undecided if bits should be deleted or merged into carbon footprint which also covers the production/consumption aspects.
