A recent edit to the "Society" section adds a number of statements sourced to the writings of Alexander von Humboldt. I doubt the accuracy of at least one of those assertions: "According to Humboldt, Spanish and Criollo people comprised the majority of the inhabitants in the Provincias Internas by 1810. This was caused by the arrival of more waves of new Spanish settlers, racial segregation among castes and especially by a catastrophic decrease in numbers of the indigenous peoples."
Looking at the 1790 demographics, such a major shift seems unlikely in those 20 years. Also, I haven't yet read the Humboldt source, so can't say whether or not the article text is an accurate summation of Humboldt's views. Either way, I'd like to see a more recent and authoritative source for this assertion. WCCasey (talk) 18:46, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
