herne, hyrne means nook or corner of land and is the obvious origin of the name see Herne_Bay,_Kent —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.26.181.14 (talk) 11:18, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I shall have to double check, but I think the photo just added is from the road bridge, not the railway bridge to its west - it shows the not very pretty footpath down from the road bridge. And for that view it would be looking south east, not south west. More importantly the houses shown there are in The Warren, the estate to the south of the railway line, not Martins Heron which is to the north. But a view from the railway bridge facing north would only show the back of Tesco's... Dsergeant (talk) 07:23, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ps. I see that Baldboris99 seems to be using an automated system to do his changes. If you look at his contributions you will see he has been doing similar changes on many pages at the rate of one or two a minute! I have already reverted the ones on Bracknell which had the wrong captions against images. There must be loads of similar errors in his edits. Dsergeant (talk) 08:16, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Update - the photo is indeed from the road bridge over the railway, and shows The Warren estate looking more or less due west. I have updated the caption to clarify. It would be rather nice to have a lead photo showing Martins Heron, not The Warren, if anybody can find a suitable one. Dsergeant (talk) 16:23, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New edits - Photos

The photos for Tesco and the station are now well out of date. Tesco is before the 2008 extension and the station before the platform lengthening a few years ago. Not sure if Geographia has picked up these yet but maybe I need to pop out and take a few. Dsergeant (talk) 06:18, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
