Conflict of interest?

[edit]

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Avatar Records, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with,
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors,
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

Accounts used solely for blatant self-promotion may be blocked indefinitely without further warning.

For more details, please read the Conflict of Interest guideline. Thank you. RJASE1 Talk 12:50, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Annonymous Poster Trashing Article

[edit]

Hello RJASE1. thank you for your message on my talk page regarding my potential conflict of interest. The problem that i am experiencing is that an annon poster is trying to trach my company's wiki page by posting untrue, unverified, slanderous, libelous material. This poster wants to intentionally harm our company for his own personal reasons. Reading wikipedia's policy's I learned that posting should conform to the following three things: Verifiability, No original research, Neutral point-of-view. the poster - who chooses to remain annonymous - cannot verify his allegations, no one else is saying these things (it is indeed original research) and given he is a member of the band in question, is not coming from a neutral point-of-view. THis poster indeed has valdalised other pages and has been warned (please check out some of his other posts about alleged rascism at Colorado High Schools). I don't think those posts conform to Wiki's guidelines either. Please help me. how do I protect the Avatar Records page against this single posted bent on slandering us with no verifiable facts - only self serving attacks. thank you very much in advance.

File:AVATARLOGO-blk.jpg listed for deletion

[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:AVATARLOGO-blk.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Please see our Manual of Style. Only the first word and proper nouns are capitalized in headings. We also do not put controversial wording in headings. If you'd like to separate out the "Criminal activity" under a separated, more neutral and descriptive heading, that's a possibility. But what you are doing is not acceptable. See our biographies of living people policy for further details. Yworo (talk) 22:25, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company, organization, or clients. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Drmies (talk) 03:30, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I would like to respectfully request that my "blocked" status be unblocked because I don't use this account for publicity or promotional purposes. I have been very careful over the last couple of years to only add material that has citations and is verifiable pursuant to wikipedia's rules. I will be even more conscious in the future to make sure this continues to be the case. thank you very much.

Decline reason:

This account can't be unblocked, because of the problem with its username. If you decide to request unblock again, be sure to be more specific about your plans to avoid editing the article in which you have a conflict of interest, so the next admin can have enough information to review the request. Request reason:

Thank you very much for the additional information on why my username has been blocked. I have read extensively on the username policy and I think my username doesn't violate the policy. my user name "avatar2k" is similar to my ex-company Avatar Records but the policy states that the username can "contain" a word that is included in the title of an organization. Obviously there is a difference between avatar2k and Avatar Records. I honestly don't think any reader would be confused in thinking avatar2k is synonymous with Avatar Records, or, for that matter, Avatar The Movie, or an "Avatar" as in an computer software icon, or even the Hindu usage of Avatar. More to the point, I will now and forever NOT post or correct the Avatar Records wiki page of ANY pages containing the word Avatar FOREVER. I use this username for many other things and respectfully ask to be allowed to continue using it on wikipedia. Of course if I violate my pledge and edit any page also containing the word Avatar I understand I will be banned for life. Given the foregoing, I respectfully an humbly request that you unblock my username. Thank you in advance.

Decline reason:

Once again, this username will not be be permitted to edit Wikipedia. Period. Indeed, should you choose to request an unblock to change your username, the policies on promotion and conflict of interest will continue to limit you exactly as you have stated above as you edit in the future. Please note that any future unblock requests that do not address the issues behind this block will be considered to be an abuse of the unblock process, and will result in the removal of your access to this talkpage (✉→BWilkins←✎) 09:31, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
