Will Moseley
Will Moseley (born July 10, 2000)[1] is an American country singer and musician who was the 2nd runner up in season 22 of American Idol in 2024.[2][3]
Early life and education
Will Moseley was born in Douglas, Georgia and grow up in Hazlehurst.[4] He graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2023 with a degree in biology, where he also played football.[4][5] During the Covid years, Moseley worked at a printing company.[4]
Music career
After college graduation, he played gigs locally which helped him pay some bills.[4]
American Idol
Moseley auditioned on American Idol season 22 in his hometown of Leesburg, where he impressed the judges with his original country song "Gone For Good." Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, who had to leave early, all gave Moseley their approval, propelling him into Hollywood Week.[6]
During the Hollywood Week, Moseley performed "Whiskey and You" by Chris Stapleton, impressing both the audience and judges. He was placed in a group with several other contestants, including Triston Harper and Scarlett Lee, where the judges announced that the entire group had advanced. For his final solo performance, Moseley chose "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers, which secured his place as a Top 24 semifinalist during the Final Judgment.[7][8]
Throughout the competition Moseley consistently impressed both the judges and the audience with his performances across various rounds, securing his safety week after week with enough votes. Starting in the Top 24, he was mentored by Tori Kelly and performed "(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding, advancing through the rounds with songs like "Makin' Me Look Good Again" by Drake White and his original song "Gone for Good." His performances of well-known tracks such as "Night Moves" by Bob Seger, "Starting Over" by Chris Stapleton, and "Modern-Day Bonnie and Clyde" by Travis Tritt, among others, continued to garner strong public support. Notable moments included his rendition of "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash and a duet on "What Makes You Country" by Luke Bryan. He continued to showcase his versatility with songs like "Gimme Three Steps" by Lynyrd Skynyrd and "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele, eventually performing "The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy" from Toy Story 4 and "Born to be Wild" from D3: The Mighty Ducks, which propelled him into the Final 3.[9][10]
In the finale, Moseley delivered a memorable performance that helped secure his position as runner-up. Moseley again performed his song "Good Book Bad," which was being released as a single.[11]
