reorganizing the order of paragraphs on a current page

Hi 1AmNobody24. On Tuesday (5/23) I tried splitting a current heading into 2 paragraphs. I copied and pasted the way to make headings and updated the paragraph content as Arlene Harris desired. Later I also want to move that paragraph to the bottom of her page. The Bot said I have a heading error. I also updated two references and those references were numbered the same as those they replaced. How do you get the references in the right order? Do you have to start typing at the top to get references in the right order? Or maybe list them in the order they are included on the page? Thank you! JulesJDT (talk) 17:43, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jules, In your earlier edit you added [21] to the reference while changing it, which created an error. It was fixed in the following edit. In your second edit you added the references without the |title= parameter which is required in all references. You can see in this diff the improvements made to your references. I would like very much to use the VisualEditor but my version of the Editor looks different. There is no option to do automatic edits. In the google version it says Edit Source not Editor. I have used google for all my edits. Will the number of the reference change if I rearrange the information on the Wikipedia page? I want to move some references to other areas because the current page asks for more references in a section that doesn't have any. Thank you so much#24! Hi Jules, if you want to use a reference multiple times in an article you can do that by: First, change the current reference from <ref>...</ref> to <ref name="1">...</ref>.   • It is now possible for local administrators to add new links to the bottom of the site Tools menu without JavaScript. Documentation is available. [1]
  • The message name for the definition of the tracking category of WikiHiero has changed from "MediaWiki:Wikhiero-usage-tracking-category" to "MediaWiki:Wikihiero-usage-tracking-category". [2]
  • One new wiki has been created: a Wikipedia in Kadazandusun (w:dtp:) [3]

  • The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 4 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 5 June. It will be on all wikis from 6 June (calendar). [4][5]

Future changes

  • Next week, on wikis with the Vector 2022 skin as the default, logged-out desktop users will be able to choose between different font sizes. The default font size will also be increased for them. This is to make Wikimedia projects easier to read. Learn more.

"clerking" at WP:UAA

While comments are always welcome if they include new information, only administrators should be declining reports at UAA. I've also noticed you replying to some reports by the bot, which isn't particualrly helpful either. UAA does not have clerks, the idea that it should have them has been repeatedly rejected. Hi @JSS, I can agree with the first part, but stronly disagree with the second part. If I see that the bot reported account is block evading, an LTA, or has done something that shows their username violates policy I'll reply so a patrolling administrator knows what to look for, calling that not helpful makes no sense to me. Each report is reviwed by an admin the same way regardless of any such comments. The bot only reports very new users so it usually literally only takes a few seconds to review each report. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 19:20, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting you're in any kind of trouble or anything, and the truth is there isn't actually a rule anywhere that says not to comment on bot reports. It's just that I've been working at UAA a very long time and have never felt such comments helped me come to a decision, as the only consideration there is whether or not the name is a blatant violation. @JSS I agree that some of my edits at UAA/Bot probably were not helpful. The way I currently see it is that: If the account has an ovious issue that would get it blocked at UAA (IU). Recent changes

  • The software used to render SVG files has been updated to a new version, fixing many longstanding bugs in SVG rendering. [6]
  • The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It was changed last week in some skins (Vector legacy and Minerva). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in Vector-2022. The developers are still considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.
  • The HTML markup used for citations by Parsoid changed last week. In places where Parsoid previously added the mw-reference-text class, Parsoid now also adds the reference-text class for better compatibility with the legacy parser. More details are available. [7]

Problems

  • There was a bug with the Content Translation interface that caused the tools menus to appear in the wrong location. This has now been fixed. [8]

  • The new version of MediaWiki includes another change to the HTML markup used for citations: Parsoid will now generate a <span class="mw-cite-backlink"> wrapper for both named and unnamed references for better compatibility with the legacy parser. Interface administrators should verify that gadgets that interact with citations are compatible with the new markup. More details are available. [11]
  • On multilingual wikis that use the <translate> system, there is a feature that shows potentially-outdated translations with a pink background until they are updated or confirmed. From this week, confirming translations will be logged, and there is a new user-right that can be required for confirming translations if the community requests it. [12]

Hello 1AmNobody24, Please always check implausible redirects whenever you move from a user page to draft like you did here. However, it's unlikely moving article from another users page to draft without their permission. In such problem, tag the page for deletion as WP:WEBHOST if its advert. Hi @SafariScribe, I used to always tag the pages as U5, but some administrators decline and move them to draftspace instead. I don't know if there's a consensus for this or just different administrators preferences. Also implausible redirects from move is not a deletion reason as can be seen at WP:R3. Hi @AlexandraMya2, While I'm not sure where that is coming from, it has been mentioned in connection with keeping the edit window open for too long and some token loss. Recent changes

  • People who attempt to add an external link in the visual editor will now receive immediate feedback if they attempt to link to a domain that a project has decided to block. Please see Edit check for more details. [13]
  • The new Community Configuration extension is available on Test Wikipedia. This extension allows communities to customize specific features to meet their local needs. Currently only Growth features are configurable, but the extension will support other Community Configuration use cases in the future. [14][15]
  • The dark mode beta feature is now available on category and help pages, as well as more special pages. There may be contrast issues. Please report bugs on the project talk page. [16]

Problems

  • Cloud Services tools were not available for 25 minutes last week. This was caused by a faulty hardware cable in the data center. [17]
  • Last week, styling updates were made to the Vector 2022 skin. This caused unforeseen issues with templates, hatnotes, and images. Changes to templates and hatnotes were reverted. Most issues with images were fixed. If you still see any, report them here. [18]

During a test at 11 wikis, the number of citations added more than doubled when Reference Check was shown to people. Reference Check is community configurable. [21]
  • Mailing lists will be unavailable for roughly two hours on Tuesday 10:00–12:00 UTC. This is to enable migration to a new server and upgrade its software. [22]
