Gia Walsh (producer)
Gia Walsh (née Laspagnoletta; born December 8 1967) is an American film producer[1]and co- founder of New York City based production company, GiGi Films. Raised in Bronxville NY, [2]she graduated from Mahattanville University in 1989. Under Walsh's supervision, GiGi Films has produced several award-winning films. In 2022 'Zola' [3]earned seven nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards[4][5][6], The Creative Impact Award at the Palm Springs international Film Festival,[7] The Black Critics Film Circle Award[8] and the 2021 Women Film Critic Circle Award.[9] Walsh's creative guidance at GiGi Films brought the film '11:55' to the screen. In 2016 '11:55' won The Aspen Film Festival Audience Award[10] and the 2017 Altered States Audience Award at The River Run Film Festival.[11] Walsh and GiGi Films produced 'American Murderer' in 2020[12][13] which received The Artistic Directors Award in 2022 at The San Diego Film Festival.[14]
Her filmography includes 'The Winning Season'(2009),[15] 'The Art of Getting By'[16] [17](2011), 'Sweets '(2015), 'Burn Country' (2016),[18] '11:55 '(2016)[19], 'Girl Friends' (2017), 'Zola'(film)(2020)[20][21], 'Allswell' in New York (2022)[22] 'American Murderer' (2022)[23] and 'Cabin Girl' (2023). 'The Winning Season' starring Sam Rockwell and Emma Roberts, Walsh's [24]first film as a producer, premiered at The Sundance Film Festival in 2009.[25]
