Spanish meaning

[edit]

Could someone check on the Spanish meaning? "Quilombo" does mean "mess" in modern Rioplatense Spanish; the meaning "brothel" is almost obsolete. There's also a verb enquilombar(se) meaning "to make/become confused". The word is a bit rude. Elsewhere, I don't know. There's no such thing as "the Spanish dialect of the Americas"; Latin American Spanish has more than a few major variants. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 14:20, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Undo merge?

[edit]

I don't think that the merger of Palenque (village) into this article has been a success. This Quilombo article remains entirely focused on the Brazilian communities, and it doesn't seem appte to have extensive coverage of such communities beyond Brazil (where the name quilombo is not used) in this article. Either, this article gets renamed to a more generic/inclusive title so it can cover these communities all across Latin America, or the palenque article gets separated out again. Thoughts?--cjllw ʘ TALK 01:51, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Still the same. The article only speaks about Brazil, the word palenque is only mentioned as a sidenote and there's still a link to Palenque (village).--87.162.37.147 (talk) 02:37, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I may go controversial....

[edit]

But the article present this legacy as something heroic; and indeed, considering how slavery was, it was surely.

But had there been 'heretic', controversial researches on the quilombos, Zumbi and all? Is there dark sides, shadows, historical lies, less flatering side, etc? Some (and NOT a far-right, racist way!) reapraisal, questioning of the legacy of it all, the history of it? What's real, what's legend, what may have been lost or hidden? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.176.80.65 (talk) 10:07, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

People in desperate situations resort to desperate means of survival. This is a surprise? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.147.43.47 (talk) 00:26, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
