Eoin Colfer (pronounced "Owen", IPA: [oʊɪn])(born May 14, 1965) is an Irish author. He is most famous for having written the Artemis Fowl series.

Life

Eoin Colfer grew up in Wexford, Ireland, along with his four brothers, Paul, Eamon, Donal, and Niall. He first developed a passion for writing in primary school, reading Viking books inspired by his history lessons at the time. His father was a primary school teacher, and as an artist and historian. His mother was a drama teacher. In 1986, Colfer became a Primary School teacher, but continued to write in his free time. After leaving school he got his degree from Dublin University and qualified as a primary school teacher, returning to work in Wexford. He married in 1991 and he and his wife spent about 4 years working in Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Italy. His first book, Benny and Omar, was published in 1998, based on his experiences in Tunisia. It has since been translated into many languages. In 2001 the first Artemis Fowl book was published and he was able to resign from teaching and concentrate fully on writing. He now lives in Ireland with his wife and 2 children. He says, "I will keep writing until people stop reading or I run out of ideas. Hopefully neither of these will happen anytime soon.. ". Tours

Whenever touring about a book, Eoin Colfer does not talk about his book. He confessed (see video link on his website) that in his tours he states that his new book is for sale, and then begins to tell humorous stories about his childhood.
