Synopsis

The episode starts off with Gouki knocking Yusuke down with a punch. Gouki then picks up Yusuke and begins to choke him, but Botan who is imitating her voice to sound like different townspeople shows up and tricks Gouki into retreating so he would not have to deal with the local people.

Yusuke wakes up and realizes that he's in his room. His mother then slaps him for getting into a fight. Botan then shows up and tells Yusuke that she has taken human form so that she can be a better assistant to him. Yusuke asks her how she found him and Botan gives him the Demon Compass, a device that can sense demon energy. Yusuke decides to go face Gouki again, but before he leaves, Botan gives Yusuke the Concentration Ring, a ring that increases the user's spirit energy several fold.

Using the Demon Compass, Yusuke finds Gouki who has just eaten a little girl's soul. Yusuke punches Gouki in the stomach but Gouki doesn't even feel it. Yusuke then tries using a wooden stake but not even that hurt Gouki. Yusuke realizes he has to use the Spirit Gun, but even if he does it won't hurt Gouki. Botan shows up and hits Gouki with a piece of wood so Gouki hits her to the ground. Gouki then picks up Yusuke and opens his mouth to eat him and Yusuke puts a stake in Gouki's mouth leaving Gouki's mouth wide open. Yusuke then fires the Spirit Gun in his mouth destroying Gouki and setting the children free.

While walking back from the battle with Gouki wounded, Yusuke is confronted by Kurama who tells Yusuke to give him three days and he will gladly give him the Forlorn Hope. Back at Yusuke's house, Botan tells Yusuke that the moon will be full in three days and that she's suspicious of Kurama but Yusuke decides to trust Kurama because Kurama seemed to be bothered by something when he was trying to pull out of the group when Yusuke overheard their conversation earlier just before he had confronted them.

Three days later, Botan goes to Koenma to get more information on the Forlorn Hope and Yusuke goes to his meeting with Kurama. Once there, Kurama shows Yusuke his human mother and tells him that his truest name was Yoko Kurama and that for a long time he used to be a spirit fox who stole treasures in the Demon World (Makai). But 15 years ago, he was badly injured by a strong pursuer and fled to the human world where he was reborn as a human child with the name Shuichi Minamino. His original plan was to spend only 10 years in the living world and then flee back to Makai as soon as he gets his demon energy back. But he became attached to his human mother and decided to stay. Now his mother is seriously ill and Kurama joined forces with Hiei and Gouki because he wished to use the Forlorn Hope to get his mother well. A nurse then comes and tells Kurama that his mother is about to die soon. Kurama heads back onto the roof of the hospital and tells Yusuke that the thing that you need to give the Forlorn Hope in exchange for your wish is life.

Meanwhile, Botan hears about this and rushes to warn Yusuke. Kurama begins to sacrifice himself for his mother, but Yusuke jumps in and tells the Forlorn Hope to take his life instead causing both of them to go unconscious. Kurama then wakes up and goes to check on his mother. Botan then arrives and Yusuke wakes up. The Forlorn Hope tells Yusuke that because of his noble deed, it decided to grant the wish without taking life. Meanwhile, Kurama is reunited with his now healthy mother. Yusuke and Botan then begin to celebrate thus ending the episode. Template:Anime Ep Nav
