MacGyver (Richard Dean Andersson)

Capillary leak syndrome

ZAP-70

Norwegian Meteorological Institute (don't ask!)

List of problems solved by MacGyver (one of my favorite articles, admittingly not very usful but HEY, it's FUN! Great ideas for science class...) Most of the season 3 entries are made by me.

The Negotiator (3x15)

  • MacGyver prevents getting stabbed by a professional killer by pouring petrol? out of his jeep's gas tank and then short-circuit it with som jump-start cables found in the backseat attached to the car's battery electrifying the killer. (38.00)

The Spoilers (3x16)

  • MacGyver created a diversion and a suprise attack using an inner tube, pressured air, chloride, a katalyst, two glas jars and a gas mask. The inflatable boat was put in a truck and filled with air until the glass broke creating a loud noise. Meanwhile MacGyver filld the two gas bombs filling one glass jar with chloride and the other with a catalyst. Then he threw them at the bad guys resulting in a reaction producing toxic chlorine gas when the two liquids mixed. (36.00) When I was a kid my grandpa gave me two things I'll never forget; a subscription of popular mechanics and a chemistry set. And this place was one BIG chemistry set! - MacGyver

Mask of the Wolf (3x17)

  • In order to escape from a booby trap in an old indian temple MacGyver lifts an heavy oak door (alledgedly over a foot thick) using ceremonial powder made of Copper and Zink to pack a charge igniting it with a fuse made of a hamp belt dipped in lamp oil. The explosion in the piston lifed the door a few inches then Mac kept it open with a log enabling him and his friends to crawl out. (34.40) Note: The scene where Dalton reaches in for his hat is taken from a similar scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Rock the Cradle (3x18)

  • MacGyver fixed a jammed landing gear of Jack Dalton's air plane by replacing the hydralic fluid with pressure from an oxygen gas cannister. MacGyver fell of the plane in the process by had a parachute so he landed safely anyway. (03.00)
  • Although not shown, MacGyver fixes a cradle for a baby using hockey sticks, climbing rope, and a net. He also fixed diapers for the baby using duct tape. (18.00)

The Endangered (3x19)

  • After being spotted at a bar, MacGyver ask some persons at a bar for matches in order to lit some rum to create a fireball to create a diversion. He don't find any matches and is nearly shot but fortunately, the hitman misses and then his gun jammed. (02.30)
  • MacGyver set up a trap using a forked branch, pegs and fishing line to shoot a tranquiliser dart into the leg of one of the bad guys.(29.00)
  • MacGyver painted logs with limonite stone and made a pointing arrow visible from the air later seen by a ranger helicopter. (35.25) It's amazing what you can do with decomposed rock, huh? - MacGyver
  • MacGyver made an assult using a decoy using rope, matches and coat on vine to set a time-delayed simulated "approach". When the hunters started shooting at the decoy, MacGyver shot one of the using a slingshot made of a flashlight barrel and elastic cords from the jacket to shoot yet another tranquiliser dart. (38.50)

Murderer's Sky (3x20)

  • MacGyver found a secret door using hi-fi speakers and cables working as a sonar. (32.30)
  • MacGyver knocked out two light bulbs spraying them with hard surface cleaner. (37.00)
  • MacGyver hid behind fake paper "rock" walls made out of paper and some home-made glue in order to make a suprise attack using his knife to lure his adverseries. (38.00)

Three riddles

1.) Two persons A and B are talking.

A: Yesterday I met three persons. If you multiply their ages you get the number 2450. And if you sum their ages and divide by two, you get your age. Can you figure out how old they are?

B: (Quite a few minutes later...) That's impossible, I need to know more!

A: What if I tell you that I'm the oldest person of us all...

B: Then I know the answer.

The question is: How old is person A? (Yes it's A, and it's possible to figure out.)

2.) You have three switches turned OFF in room A connected (in a hidden way) to three light bulbs in room B. Your task is to figure out wich lamp is connected to each of thee three swiches. The catch is that when you enter room B, you can't get back to room A. How do you do it? (Hint: Think outside the matemathical box!)

3.) In a lottery game, a car is hidden behind one of three doors. Behind the two other are empty. The rules are that a person selects a door and afterwards one of the empty doors are opened for him to see. Then he gets the chance to switch door, is it a good move to do so?
