Ads

I didn't see any ad in Tiraspol Times in 3 months I've checked their website. Considering that Tiraspol Times editor was editing also Wikipedia as User:MarkStreet and User:Mark us street, and also as sockpuppets User:Henco, User:Esgert and User:Truli (sockpuppets now blocked) and Wikipedia is an important thing for TT editor, probabily he will see the criticism regarding the fact that they don't have ads and is unknown from where they took their money and they will publish some ads in future, just to conter this criticism.--MariusM 18:05, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are so wrong. Again. There are many ads in the magazines (which are publicly available and which they also send abroad if you subscribe) as well as online. Online, they are fewer. But they are there nevertheless. I visit the site http://www.tiraspoltimes.com several times per week to read the news. For at least the past 3 months (maybe more) they have had an ad for Spectrum Travel Company. It is almost on every page. It has the picture of a girl with face paint, and is an animated rectangular ad. It sits in the lower right corner of the page. One of the pages has a huge SPECTRUM logo. They also have other ads, but this one is the most visible. It is also the one that I remember the best, due to the girl with the face paint. - Mauco 00:51, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Then I guess that you are not doing your research well enough. I didn't see any ads on the frontpage either, but there are plenty of ads on a number of subpages. Yeah, yeah. So before, you claimed that there were no ads. Now, when you "discover" that there has been ads for the last 3 months or more, you disqualify by saying that they point to propaganda sites. CORRECTION: Visitpmr.com is a travel website. It deals with tourism information. It is developed jointly with the Spectrum Travel Company, which is a private travel agency based in Tiraspol. See http://visitpmr.com/about.html for source. That is your interpretation. Do you have a source for this? I read that sentence differently. Anyway, I fail to see what the problem is. We are discussing whether or not there are ads in Tiraspol Times, and we have determined that yes, indeed, there are ads. Not really. I noticed that they have a box at the end of some of the pages where they show news headlines. Right now, it includes links to tiraspoltimes.com, transdniestria.com and regnum.ru so I guess it is just a matter of which site carries the news at any given day. If you have any sources to document that this is not so, then please show them. Otherwise, your claim of reciprocity is just that: An unsubstantiated claim. Well, again, I fail to see what the problem is. There are ads in Tiraspol Times. Both online and in print. NPOV and sourcing

Okay, I know this article has been an object of a tug-of-war for a long time, so anything I write here is probably going to be stirring up a hornets nest. But anyway, currently the article is well on the pro-Transnistrian whitewashing side. Some things that ought to be fixed:

It's status as a paper newspaper is unsourced. All the information about its paper edition comes from its own website. For all I can see, nobody in any independent reliable source has ever done so much as confirmed that the newspaper exists, let alone established notability.
The only thing that has borderline notability established is the website, through that one critical review on "Radio Free Europe" ([1]), which is currently not even being cited properly. Remember that "notability" normally translates to "multiple independent non-trivial sources" - this is only one. And its elements that are critical about the website's agenda aren't even summarised currently.

Update: I now see there was also the "Economist" article, whose link was also removed. So we do have notability for the website, but that's still about it. Both these links badly need to be restored, they are basically the only things that justify the existence of this article.

All information about its background, funding, mode of operation etc. that is sourced to its own website ought to be marked as such (like: "according to its own website...") Fut.Perf. ☼ 07:52, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
