Dawnwood Middle School

Dawnwood Middle School is a middle school located in the Middle Country Central School District, in Centereach, New York, and is adjacent to Centereach High School.

Philosophy

The mission of the Middle Country Central School District is to empower and inspire all students to apply the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to be creative problem solvers, to achieve personal success, and to contribute responsibly in a diverse and dynamic world.

Structure

6th-8th grades are taught in Dawnwood Middle School. The school itself is in a 2-story L-shape, consisting of 3 wings, appropriately known as Wing 1, Wing 2, and Wing 3.

The teachers work in a "team" system. Each student is assigned to a "team" of (usually) 3 or more teachers, each teaching an essential academic class. The rest of the classes (music, art, etc.) are not structured as "teams" and work independently.

Administration

There are 2 assistant principals and a main one.

Princpals

• Mr. Donavan was the principal of Dawnwood but has since retired.
• Ms. Peyser is presently the principal of Dawnwood and was an assistant principal beforehand.

Assistant principals

• Mr. Rotherburg is the assistant princaple for the 6th graders

• Mr. Reed is the new assistant principal, having taken position after Ms. Seeh was transferred.
