Speedfreek is a fictional supervillain in the Marvel Comics universe.

Past

Only Speedfreek's last name of Shappe has ever been revealed. He first appeared in Incredible Hulk (Vol. 1) #388 (December, 1991). He has always been a ruthless killer, even before he got his super-powers. At some point in his life, Speedfreek became addicted to the drug called "snap". He stole his costume from its previous owner and also killed that man. Once Speedfreek's daughter, Kate, discovered what her father was doing for a living, she ran away from home. Later, he was hired by a man called only Mr. Lang and had to kill his rival Ralph Badone. Speedfreek succeeded in that job, and also killed Badone's body guards. Lang later also hired Speedfreak to kill the man, Tyler Lang, who contracted his son with AIDS.

Speedfreek did as told and located Tyler and his partner, and during the battle injured both Rick Jones and Jim Wilson who were present at an AIDS benefit party. Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk was also present. The Hulk and Speedfreek fought each other for a while, at least until the Hulk send Speedfreak literally flying into the air. When Speedfreek's daughter got killed in Florida, he sought out revenge. He used his human identity to lure the Hulk to his side, who agreed to help, unaware that Shappe and Speedfreak were one and the same. After locating the killer, who turned out to be a boy named Larry, Speedfreek revealed himself and tried to kill Larry, but was stopped by the Hulk. Speedfreak again fought with the Hulk, momentairily incapacitating him on one of his adamantium blades. Speedfreek then went to find an escaped Larry, but was again stopped by a recovered Hulk. Hulk, realizing he could not get near Speedfreak without being slashed again, threw a car battery at the villain. Speedfreak slashed the car battery into two but the acid poured all over his face, causing the villain tremendous pain, and he eventually agreed to retreat. Apparently, Speedfreek went into jail after that.

Relatives

His sister was Leslie Anne Shappe, better known as Crazy Eight, who was executed.

His daughter, Kate, tragically died when, after running away from home after discovering what her father did, was accidentally shot by an anti-abortion protester.

Speedfreek was also one of the villains that escaped from the Raft prison during New Avengers #1-3. Hiding in Stamford with some other escaped convicts, he was eventually tracked down by the New Warriors. During the battle, Nitro used his powers to explode the entire neighborhood, causing both the death of hundreds of people, the New Warriors, and presumably Speedfreek as well.
