--Leoniekhoury 22:22, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Khoury (occasionally Khouri; Arabic: خوري) is an Arabic surname that is unique to Arab Christians. The term Khoury means "priest" in Arabic. It is also sometimes given to Muslem families, those names are from the word Khour (or Creek) in Arabic. It is popular in Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, and Jordan. It is often given as a last name to a new priest or minister, replacing the old one. For example, a name would change from "Joe Smith" to "Joe S. Khoury". It is common for a family to keep the Khoury surname for generations past the life of the priest.
