Combichrist was formed in 2003 by Norwegian Andy LaPlegua (founder of the band Icon of Coil) as an aggrotech project.

History

Formation

The first material LaPlegua wrote were a few powernoise/techno crossover tracks under the moniker DRIVE. The band name was later changed to Combichrist before the debut album, The Joy of Gunz was released on the German record label Out of Line. The name Combichrist originates from a hardcore fanzine LaPlegua made during the late 90s, with JR Ewing guitarist Håkon Mella. A few years after the band's conception, LaPlegua departed Norway for the United States, which is now the current homebase for Combichrist and his other projects, Scandy and Panzer AG.

Commercial success

In 2004, The second EP, Sex, Drogen und Industrial, spent 7 weeks at number one in the DAC charts. 2005 saw the release of Everybody Hates You and it was at this time that the band began labeling their music as "Techno Body Music" or TBM. The release of Get Your Body Beat in 2006 turned out to be a commercial breakout for the band.

Combichrist Army

Fans of the band are known to be extremely dedicated and in turn the band is notorious for its dedication to the fans, labeled by LaPlegua as the Combichrist Army.

Videography

As of June 2007, the band has recorded four promo videos.

  • The first, 'Blut Royale' (from the album Everybody Hates You) has never been released, yet it has been confirmed by the band that the video was completed.
  • The second was for 'Get Your Body Beat' (first heard on the 'Get Your Body Beat' single and later the What the Fuck is Wrong With You People? album,) was directed by Agata Alexander and features scenes from the upcoming film The Gene Generation from director Pearry Teo. This video may be viewed on YouTube.com as well as the band's offical website.
  • The third video is for the track 'Electrohead' from the What the Fuck is Wrong With You People? album. The band posted a bulletin on their website and myspace, "We will be shooting a video for “Electrohead” on Friday Feburary 2, in Los Angeles, at Das Bunker. If you want to be a part of the video, dress hot or "crazy", and show up early. We expect to see all of the So Cal CC Army out for this. Doors open at 10pm." However, after reviewing the material shot during the performace, the footage was found too dark to use due to the venues poor lighting. The band then opted to re-shoot the live video portion in North Carolina. 'Electrohead' was officially released on June 10th 2007 via Myspace video.
  • On May 7th 2007 LaPlegua posted the band's newest video 'Deathbed' (from the What the Fuck is Wrong With You People? album,) on his livejournal and on YouTube.com. This time the video was filmed and directed by LaPlegua with help from Agata Alexander who also directed the 'Get Your Body Beat' video.
