Dark Lotus



Dark Lotus is one of two supergroups from Psychopathic Records which currently consists of the Insane Clown Posse, Twiztid, and Blaze Ya Dead Homie. Former members included ex-labelmate Marz in 2001, and Anybody Killa from 2002 unill his departure from Psychopathic Records in 2006. The group formed in 1999 and have so far released two albums - Tales From The Lotus Pod in 2001, and Black Rain in 2004. The group is stated to release a third album in 2008.

History

Originally the lineup consisted of only ICP and Twiztid. The four member group recorded the track Echoside, which was released as a single and featured on the Insane Clown Posse's "Amazing Jeckel Bros." album. In early 2000 they recorded I Don't Care, but as the lineup changed it was released a year later. Dark Lotus was slated to become a six-member group to go with the six petals of the lotus flower.

When Twiztid's "Freekshow" album was released, Psychopathic recording artist Blaze Ya Dead Homie and professional wrestler Vampiro appeared on the track Maniac Killa, which led to much confusion on who was in Dark Lotus. Then on Cryptic Collection 2, the track Drunken Ninja Master was said to be a Dark Lotus song, with Anybody Killa making an appearance. Blaze was announced as an official member, but at one point Blaze left Psychopathic, so Esham was announced as his replacement. However, Blaze did come back, and was immediately put back into Dark Lotus instead of Esham. Finally, during ICP's Bizzar/Bizaar tour in 2000, an unknown rapper by the name of Marz became good friends with Violent J and Marz was asked to join the group.

The six artists went to work and recorded "Tales From The Lotus Pod" and released the album at the second annual Gathering of the Juggalos in 2001. The album was well received by the fans. Along with the release of the CD was Dark Lotus' first concert and Marz's only live performance with the group. After the Gathering, Marz quit the group. A large controversy followed onto why he left, with both he and Violent J giving different sides of the story.

After Marz's departure ICP, Twiztid, and Blaze all set out on the Hatchet Rizing Tour. During this tour they each played a set as individuals, and then, to close the show, came out as Dark Lotus. They performed as only the five of them, although Anybody Killa was Blaze's hypeman and was rumored to be the new 6th member. Also around Halloween a special Hallowicked comic was put out about Dark Lotus, making them supernatural and fighting off a man who was planning on raping a young woman.

The group brought in ABK to replace him permanently. With ABK, they re-released "Tales From The Lotus Pod" a year later with ABK rapping over all of Marz's former verses. Although Marz was no longer with Psychopathic, there are still arguments within the Juggalo community over which member, ABK or Marz, is better in the lineup. It is also commonly believed that ABK's verses were poorly recorded into the tracks.

Near the end of 2003 there were rumors flying around that Twiztid and Blaze were leaving the label, to start their own label Majik Records. Violent J went on chatrooms telling Juggalos that things weren't good. He said that Psychopathic is going to be just ICP again. At the 2003 Big Ballas Twiztid and Blaze didn't show up, which led to the Rude Boy making the rumors even more present. Then one night, when it seemed like Psychopathic Records was coming to its end, every single artist website shut down. Each website had a simple purple cross, an ad for the new album and tour by Dark Lotus, Black Rain. The project was released in April of 2004 and it was titled "Black Rain". The album was very well received within the Juggalo community. After a major tour and killer performances at "Gatherings," the group was strong as ever, but on February 4, 2006, it was announced that the Anybody Killa had left Psychopathic Records. Later that day, Faygoluvers.net conducted an interview with ABK and claimed he was still good friends with everybody at Psychopathic. This, however, once again left Dark Lotus without its sixth member.

In the summer of 2006 at the 7th Annual Gathering of the Juggalos, both the Insane Clown Posse and Twiztid claimed they would not replace ABK and there will not be a 6th member. Lotus will instead remain as 5.[citation needed] During Lotus' performance at the event, they cut out both ABK and Marz' verses and skipped over them like they were never there. The next day at Twiztid's seminar, Monoxide claimed that Lotus was done and that no more CD's would be recorded, but they would continue to perform.[citation needed]

On October 25, 2006, an interview with Violent J was conducted in Real Detroit Weekly, in which he was asked if "... there [was] ever going to be another Dark Lotus or Psychopathic Rydas album now that Anybody Killa left the label?," to which he responded "Absolutely, both! Shit. Hell yeah! I don't understand how there couldn't be. Even with the recent departure of Anybody Killa. Both Dark Lotus and Psychopathic Rydas existed before ABK and they'll exist after."[1]

It was announced on October 26 that Blender Magazine ranked Dark Lotus's song Black Rain #6 on the "Most Gruesome Lyrics... Ever!" list.[2] Blender has previously named ICP the worst artists in music history.[3]


In a recent interview with Violent J from faygoluvers.net, J has stated that in addition to a new Psychopathic Rydas album coming in 2008, there will also be a new Dark Lotus album. However, he also stated that they will not replace Anybody Killa as the sixth member, meaning Dark Lotus will continue to have only five members. Before this, many believed Boondox would replace Anybody Killa as the sixth member. He will become the second artist with esham on Psychopathic Records to be excluded from this supergroup.
