Manchester Velodrome

Manchester Velodrome is a velodrome in Manchester.

Opened in September 1994, it is the United Kingdom's leading indoor Olympic-standard cycle track and was used to host the track cycling events in the 2002 Commonwealth Games. The track has a reputation for quick times; as of 24 December 2005, twelve current cycling world records were set at the Velodrome,^[1] including Chris Boardman's World Hour Record and the 4000 m pursuit record set by the Australian men's team. The track is 250metres in Length and has bankings which reach 42degrees in the middle, the track is a steep at the top as it is on the black (racing) line. The track is open to the general public to go and ride as well as Britains top athletes.

Today it is home to the National Cycling Centre, and the headquarters of British Cycling, the national governing body for cycling.

On 21st May 2007 the velodrome closed down for a period of time to be re-surfaced. The old track was replaced with brand new siberian pine put down. The track re-opened 16th July 2007, With the track running much smoother with the resurface in place.

Revolution Series

The Revolution Series as been a huge success since it was started in 2003 with the velodrome being sold out on a number of occasions. The series has managed to attract some top riders since it began competing in lots of different kinds of races. The races in between are the future stars races, where Britain's bright young talents get up and race.

It was announced on 30th January 2006 that the Manchester Velodrome would host the 2008 World Indoor Track Cycling Championships in March 2008.
