Lulu Spencer (full name Lesley Lu Spencer) is a fictional character on the popular ABC soap opera, General Hospital. She is the daughter of legendary supercouple Luke and Laura Spencer.

Brief character history

Lesley Lu was named "Lesley" after her maternal grandmother Dr. Lesley Webber and "Lu" after an alias her mother had assumed while she and Luke were on the run from Frank Smith. She has been called Lulu since her birth. She was born to legendary supercouple Luke and Laura Spencer during a happy period in their marriage, when they had settled in Port Charles after more than a decade on the run with their first child, Lucky. However, the little girl's life was troubled from infancy. Luke's involvement with mobster Sonny Corinthos put his family in danger. When Laura was threatened by the mob, she was forced to flee the town with newborn Lulu. Mother and daughter returned a few months later, but soon they were in danger again. Laura was singing baby Lulu a lullaby in their home when the house was riddled with bullets from a mob-related shooting. The two barely escaped being killed.

Health crisis

Months later, the little girl was diagnosed with aplastic anemia. Lulu's condition forced her mother Laura to reveal the existence of another son, Nikolas Cassadine, born during her captivity with Stavros Cassadine. Nikolas saved little Lulu's life with a bone marrow transplant, but Luke and Laura's marriage was destroyed by the revelation of this secret. While happy that Lulu had been saved, Luke was deeply conflicted about the Cassadine family and Laura's involvement with them. He also freely acknowledged that he wasn't sure what to do with a little girl. Lulu was primarily raised by her mother after the divorce, as Luke was rarely around, and Laura was sometimes in hiding in Switzerland or Beecher's Corners, North Carolina, if the family was in danger.

Lulu returns

When Laura needed to be institutionalized following her recollection of Rick Webber's murder, Lulu was turned over to her maternal grandmother, Lesley. However, Lulu soon proved too much for her grandmother to handle, and Lesley finally washed her hands of the rebellious seventeen-year-old. Luke was forced to take a more active role in his daughter's life, and Lulu moved into the Quartermaine mansion with Luke and her new step-mother, Tracy Quartermaine. Luke has said that he loves Lulu, but he is also uneasy around her because she reminds him so much of her mother. In recent years, he has seemed pleased to discover some Spencer traits in his "larcenous little lemon drop." Luke's frequent absences have left Lulu still seeking his attention. She has become closer to her brothers, Lucky and Nikolas, but she still often feels isolated and confused by her fractured family. She decided not to invite her family to her high school graduation for that very reason.

Pregnancy crisis

After graduation, Lulu continued to be troubled and rebellious. She hatched a scheme with Diego Alcazar to break up Dillon Quartermaine, her stepbrother, and his girlfriend, Georgie Jones. Lulu lost her virginity to Dillon after lying to him about Georgie's relationship with Diego. When she eventually confessed the lie about Georgie and Diego, Dillon ended their friendship, and Lulu was hurt by the loss of her first lover. Soon afterwards, Lulu discovered she was pregnant. She quickly realized that she and Dillon had used a faulty ELQ condom. Lulu revealed the pregnancy to the Quartermaine family and to Georgie, who went with her to the doctor's office to confirm the pregnancy. Lulu had decided she didn't want the baby and considered an abortion, but Dillon objected and tried to take legal steps to prevent her from terminating her pregnancy. The Quartermaines wanted the baby, and Lulu had almost agreed to have it and sign over all parental rights to Dillon when Luke returned from one of his adventures. He gave Lulu the confidence she needed to make the choice she wanted. She chose to have the abortion. The Quartermaines were surprisingly supportive of Lulu following the abortion and didn't rebuke her for the choice she made.

Laura's return

In November 2006, just in time for the twenty-fifth anniversary of her first wedding to Luke, Laura returned. With the help of Dr. Robin Scorpio and Dr. Patrick Drake, a medication was found that would bring Laura out of her catatonic state. Lulu was overjoyed to have her mother back in her life, but she was also nervous about Laura's potential reaction to the abortion. Laura eased back into life in Port Charles, even celebrating a renewal of her wedding vows with Luke. However, the drug that had brought Laura out of her catatonic state turned out to be a temporary fix, and she soon relapsed. Before she did, Lulu was flooded with guilt about her abortion, and Laura sensed something was bothering her daughter and pressed her to confide in her. Lulu then tearfully told her mother she had an abortion because she didn't want to bring a baby into this world who wasn't loved or wanted, just as she felt she had never been loved or wanted. Laura comforted her daughter, telling her that she was wanted and loved, and supported Lulu's decision about the abortion She also told Lulu that she was sure that she didn't really murder Rick Webber. The information gave Lulu a mission and a purpose following her mother's return to Shadybrook.

Metro court hostages

After Laura's relapse, Lulu found herself mixed up with the mob. Continuing conflicts with Lorenzo Alcazar's organization led Luke's old friend Sonny Corinthos and his partner, Jason Morgan, to call on the help of teenage hacker Damian Spinelli. Lulu inadvertently wound up involved in their machinations and became friends with Spinelli. When Mr. Craig and his men took several Port Charles residents hostage in the lobby of the Metro Court hotel, both Lulu and Spinelli were caught in the melee. Lulu was injured in the eventual explosion of the lobby, but she and Spinelli both survived.

Which boy is best?

Soon, however, it became clear that Spinelli's feelings for her extended beyond mere friendship. He and Lulu grew closer when they realized that her sister-in-law Elizabeth's baby had been fathered not by her brother, Lucky, but by Jason Morgan. Lulu called Spinelli her "boyfriend" at Lucky and Elizabeth's spring wedding; since then, Spinelli has considered them to be dating. However, Lulu hasn't made her final choice; she's still torn between Spinelli, her former flame, Dillon, and one of Sonny's bodyguards, Milo Giambetti. By March 2007, Lulu was getting tired of juggling her three suitors. She resolved to decide which she would date by testing out each of them. Each would have the chance to impress her on a "trial" date. Dillon's French-themed date was less than successful; Spinelli made the situation worse by interrupting their dinner. Spinelli and Milo's dates are upcoming.

While Lulu balanced her three "boyfriends," a new man appeared in Port Charles. Logan Hayes, an army buddy of Cooper Barrett's, has frequently encountered her since his arrival in town. Logan soon became involved in Lulu's crusade to prove her mother's innocence. She and Dillon had discovered evidence to prove that Laura had not killed Rick Webber; the true culprit was Laura's ex-husband, Scott Baldwin. Logan, Cooper, and Maxie Jones found out about the evidence and plotted to blackmail Scott, making it look like Lulu was the blackmailer. Logan's developing feelings for Lulu led him to question the plan. In the end, Lulu discovered the ruse. Logan has defended Lulu from Scott Baldwin several times since his arrival in town. She has also saved him; she helped him to escape from a gunfight with Alcazar's men in late April.

Learning the truth

Lulu went to her mother's custody hearing between Scott Baldwin and her brother Nikolas Cassadine. When she walked in on Nikolas' testimony, she learned that her mother was raped by her father. After the hearing, Luke finds Lulu and tells her what happened the night he raped Laura and how she had the strength to forgive him. Devastated, Lulu walks away ashamed of her father's violent act and swearing she will never fall in love believing that true love doesn't exist. She also learned that her sister-in-law Elizabeth Webber was raped when she was 15 years old.

Logan Hayes

Already being chased by "The Three Stooges", Lulu found herself the center of attention to newcomer and bad boy, Logan Hayes. Logan came to town as a friend of Cooper Barrett, but it didn't take long for him to find himself liking Lulu. Logan would constantly be flirting with Lulu, whenever he saw her, but Lulu gladly rejected him every time. One afternoon at Sonny's Coffee Shop, Lulu and Spinelli were talking, when Logan and Spinelli start to fight. Logan knocks Spinelli to the ground, and forcibly kisses Lulu, setting her off. Lulu, wasn't just mad that he kissed her, but she had just recently found out about her mother's rape, and felt that Logan was raping her in a way. She broke a bottle and was threatening him when Logan's buddy Cooper runs in, pinning Logan to the wall. Spinelli and Lulu left, and Logan and Coop fought. Lulu later returned to the coffee house, to thank Cooper and apoligize for yelling at him. Maxie, Cooper's girlfriend and Lulu's enemy, saw them together and ran to Logan, where she made a deal. In order to keep Lulu away from Cooper, Maxie made a deal with Logan. Logan would sleep with Lulu then dump her, and in return Maxie would sleep with him. Maxie later called off the bet, but Lulu was already under Logan's spell. As Lulu and Logan grew closer, people started to interfere. First Tracy, Lulu's step-mom, then Scott Baldwin, Logan's father. Then Lulu's brother, Nikolas Cassidine started to interfere, as well as Cooper, Logan's best friend. She was happy when he surprised her with balloons, a cake, and a charm bracelet back at his apartment. He told her that he hopes they will build the bracelet with charms together. She has told him that she trusts him not to let her get hurt by him. They have begun a forbidden relationship. But how will Lulu react, when she finds out that Logan struck a bet with Maxie, to get her into bed?
