Ballinhassig (Béal Átha an Cheasaigh in Irish) is a village in County Cork, Province of Munster, Ireland, situated 11 km south of Cork City just off the N71 Bandon road and not far from the source of the River Owenabue (Abhainn Bui, meaning "Yellow River").

Traditionally farming based, the area has seen economic growth in other areas, matched by the construction of new houses and buildings. Ballinhassig has several roads and one roundabout.

There are two primary schools in Ballinhassig (Ballyheada and Goggins Hill), several public houses, a number of shops, two churches and a co-op. The Marion Hall has recently been renovated.

Ballinhassig GAA has a senior hurling team.

History

Mountjoy, the Lord Deputy of Ireland, camped there together with his army of 4,000 troops on the night before the Battle of Kinsale in 1601.

There are also a number of ringforts in the area.

The Kilpatrick railway tunnel at Ballinhassig, opened in 1847, was the first such tunnel to be completed in Ireland.

A steam rally club is situated in Halfway, 1 mile from Ballinhassig village.
