Marty Jones
Marty Jones (born September 26, 1945) is a retired English professional wrestler best known for his work in All Star Promotions throughout the 1980s and 90's. Jones was also responsible for training Darren Matthews[1].
Jones had his first taste of championship gold on November 8, 1982 defeated Bobby Gaetano for the vacant World Mid-Heavyweight Championship. Jones would go on to win this title seven times trading it back and forth with Dave "Fit" Finlay on several occasions. Jones also held the British Commonwealth tag team titles with a young Chris Adams in the late-1970s.
During the early 1980s Jones also wrestled for New Japan Pro Wrestling against some of the all-time greats from that country. On Oct. 8, 1982 he went up against one of the greatest junior heavyweights in wrestling history, Tiger Mask. In early 1983 he had two tag team matches. One was with the Masked Superstar against Antonio Inoki and Tatsumi Fujinami and the other saw him team with Rusher Kimura against Hulk Hogan and Inoki.
Jones also wrestled in Germany for one of the biggest companies in Europe at the time, the Catch Wrestling Association. He teamed with his old foe Finlay to win the CWA tag titles from Tony St. Clair and Miles Zrno on June 23, 1990.
Jones' biggest title win came in All Star when he defeaded Dave Taylor for the British Heavyweight Championship in 1996. Also in 1996, Jones would team up with Peter Collins on February 1 to defeat the "Liverpool Lads" (Rob Brookside & "Doc" Dean) for the vacant British Open Tag Team Championship before retiring later that year and vacating both titles.
