Rock of Love with Bret Michaels is a competition-driven reality television series starring Bret Michaels, the lead singer of the band Poison. The 12-episode series, which premiered July 15, 2007 on VH1 (a VSPOT online premiere showcased on July 10), was created by Cris Abrego and Mark Cronin (co-founders of the production company 51 Minds).

Filmed at locations in and around Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, each episode covers one or two day’s events and ends in the elimination of one or more contestants.

Rock of Love’s storyline revolves around 20 women and the conflict that arises as they compete against each other to prove that they have the potential to be Michael’s perfect "Rock Star Girlfriend." Michaels and the contestants stay in the same house used for the Los Angeles location of the American television reality show America's Next Top Model. The contestants participate in various physical and social challenges that are occasionally judged by industry greats such as Don Was and Richard Blade.

Episodes

Episode One: Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time (Aired July 15, 2007)

Bret shows up on a motorcycle and welcomes the 25 female competitors. After Bret leaves, his head of security, Big John, eliminates Pam, Kimberly, Meridith, Kelly, and Tiffany. Tiffany pounds on the door to the house and asks Big John to let her stay, which he does.

Bret takes pictures of the women, and then everyone starts to party. Bret tries to meet as many women as possible. Bret pays little attention to Brandi C., to her chagrin, until she appears in her friend's bathing suit. Tiffany, who appears drunk, gets into a fight with some of the other women.

During elimination, Bret selects the women who may stay in the house by giving them a backstage pass personalized with their photo. Jessica, Bonnie, Lauren, Krista, and Raven are eliminated.

Episode Two: Talk Dirty To Me (Aired July 22, 2007)

Another party starts at the house. Erin mentions that she has an ex-fiance and was supposed to get married this year. Some women begin an impromptu musical jam and then a live music stripper show. Lacey pulls Jes, fully clothed, into the pool, which infuriates with Jes. Lacey argues with Dallas about the treatment of animals.

The women participate in a phone sex competition. Bret is hooked up to a penile plethysmograph, a device that measures the blood flow to the penis. Rodeo, Erin, and Lacey rate the best results and win a date with Bret. Faith, Tiffany, and Tamara rate the worst results. The date is a trip to Jim Henson Studios, where the women record parts to complete a song Bret is recording with producer Don Was.

Brandi C. argues with Erin. Erin comments on Brandi C.'s "meth-scratched face," which Brandi C. says is actually the result of a car accident. Brandi C. complains to Bret about the incident.

Heather tells Bret that Erin is engaged and is supposed to be married soon. Erin explains her side of the story to Bret.

During elimination, Tawny, Tamara, Faith, and TIffany are eliminated.

Episode Three: Motocross (Aired July 29, 2007)

The competition for this show is a motocross relay race. Mercedes and Charity, both nine-time world motorcycle champions, teach the women to ride. The first team is Magdalena, Rodeo, Brandi M., and Samantha. The second team is Erin, Mia, Jes, and Brandi C. The third team is Heather, Lacey, Kristia, and Dallas.

During the race, Lacey almost immediately falls off her motorcycle and cannot restart it until Heather helps her. Dallas hits a bump and flies off the bike. Rodeo is the first rider to finish, so her team wins the race. As a reward, Bret goes on one date with Samantha and Magdalena, and another with Rodeo and Brandi M. During the drive home, Lacey and Dallas continue their animal rights argument from the night before, with Dallas getting increasingly angry and calling Lacey a hypocrite because Bret wears leather and snakeskin. Lacey feels she can get Dallas eliminated if she can get Dallas to hit her.

During the date, Samantha and Magdalena watch a documentary on Bret's life on a drive-in-style screen outside. Bret kisses both girls passionately. Samantha is hesitant at first because she is uncomfortable with anyone watching them kiss, but she later gives in. After confessing to wanting an orgasm, Samantha says she doesn't like the fact that Bret will be with other women later.

The fight between Lacey and Dallas escalates. Lacey wears an "I love PETA" shirt, and Dallas wears fur and leather. Lacey keeps following and touching Dallas. Dallas shoves Lacey away. Rodeo has to physically pull Lacey away from Dallas to end the situation.

On Rodeo and Brandi M.'s date with Bret, Rodeo tells Bret about the fight between Lacey and Dallas. They have bikinis tailored (especially for them by bathing suit designer Ashley Paige) and share a rooftop meal. Rodeo seems to dominate the conversation, which upsets Brandi M. In turn, Rodeo feels Brandi M. has no class because she burped and snorted during the meal.

Bret spends some more time with the other women. Bret finds himself in the middle of another heated debate between Lacey and Dallas about the situation between them.

At elimination, Kristia and Dallas are eliminated. Before leaving, Dallas flips off Bret.

Episode Four: Riff It Good (Aired August 5, 2007)

Episode Four features a competition to tests the women's lyric-writing capabilities. The opening scene begins immediately after Episode Three's elimination. The remaining women celebrate, but Rodeo realizes she misses her 7-year-old son. Emotionally fragile, she leaves the party in tears. Bret consoles her, but she remains vulnerable.

The women are paired up and told that they are to compose lyrics for a track off of Bret's solo album (a ballad or a rock song), which they will perform for the two judges: Bret and radio personality Richard Blade. The winning team gets a date with Bret.

Lacey and Erin choose the ballad. Lacey sings while Erin fearfully plays the tamborine. Heather and Magdalena sing and dance together. Jes and Brandi M. shout-sing a punky version of the rock song using electric guitars as props. Mia and Rodeo's rock song lyrics reflect Rodeo's desire to see her son. Sam and Brandi C. perform their brooding lyrics. The judges confer, and Heather and Magdalena's and Sam and Brandi C.'s team tie.

Heather and Magdalena are taken for sushi at The Geisha House, where Bret presents each with an electric guitar. They arrive back at the house to find a party in progress. Heather joins in the fun, dancing topless. The scene ends as Lacey, Brandi C., and Heather are seen piling onto Bret on his bed.

The next morning, the other women discuss the three who spent the night in Bret's room. Sam is disappointed that her date feels cheapened and considers going home. A hungover Bret arrives to take Sam and Brandi C. on their Paramount Ranch picnic lunch date. Bret presents them with acoustic guitars. Sam discusses her trust issues privately with Bret. She decides to remain in the house.

Breaking format, Bret eliminates Rodeo first. He tells her she needs to go be with her son and gives her his custom-made cowboy hat as a parting gift. Bret hands out the rest of the passes and Brandi C. is eliminated.

Episode Five: First Annual Bret's Mudbowl (Aired August 12, 2007)

The episode begins at the end of the previous episode's elimination ceremony. Bret decides to cut out from partying and head to bed early, so the girls end up partying without him. Brandi M. ends up drinking heavily and getting really drunk.

The next day, the remaining eight contestants participate in a football competition in the mud. Bret told the girls that he wanted someone who likes football as much as him. The girls are split into two teams: The Sweethearts (Jes, Magdalena, Mia and Brandi M.) and The Fallen Angels (Heather, Samantha, Lacey and Erin). The most valuable player of the game gets to go out on a one-on-one date with Bret, while the rest of the winning team goes on a group date with Bret. Lacey injures her ankle on the field when tackled by Jes, so Bret has one of the girls on the Sweethearts sit out to make it three on three. Brandi M. sits out because she is too hungover to play well. Team Sweethearts win the competition and Jes wins the MVP date, with Bret saying that she could run, catch, and sprint, and that she "let the savage beast" out during the game.

Jes is escorted to her date by Big John, and Bret plays a song that he wrote after she walks in. Jes says that she feels like she can let her guard down around Bret and the two have a really nice date together. Back at the house, Heather decides to write Bret a letter detailing dirt on the other girls, especially Erin, whom during a phone call with her manager finds out that Justin Timberlake will be at her bar and she would have been waiting on him. Heather feels that Erin is just a "starfucker" and decides to talk to Bret about. Bret ends up getting frustrated with Heather and Erin and talks to Heather about the letter. During the group date, Bret tells the other girls about the letter, who told him not to believe it. Brandi M. tells Bret that Heather was on Surreal Life and tried to sleep with Vanilla Ice.

After the group date, the other girls confront Heather about what she wrote in the letter and she tries to save face by saying it was all about her and how she feels about Bret. On elimination day, Lacey decides to do damage control so Heather will not be eliminated, and has a long sit down with Bret. During their conversation, Erin decides to go talk to Bret, who is visibly annoyed with all the drama. That night at elimination, Erin was sent home over Heather and Erin comments that she's been with bigger stars than Bret Michaels.

Episode Six: Tour Bus Challenge (Aired August 19, 2007)

Big John wakes the girls up and tells them they need to step up their game and prove to Bret that they can deal with life on the road. Bret then says that he needs to see more of Magdalena and Mia, as he is starting to think they are never going to open up to him.

They go on the tour bus to a parking lot, where a bunch of stations are set up. Each station is a city. First stop is New York City, second is Philadelphia, third is Detroit, fourth is Nashville, fifth is Seattle, and the last is Los Angeles. Whoever is the overall winner of the challenge gets a single date with Bret.

Big John picks one of the girl’s names out of a hat to see who goes first at the New York City station. It’s Jes, so she gets to pick her competitor. She chooses Magdalena because she figures she isn’t very athletic and will lose. This station's challenge was to pack a suitcase the fastest, and Jes was really close to winning but a red sweater got stuck in the zipper so Magdalena wins. Big John draws Magdelena's name at Philadelphia. She decides to pick Sam. This challenge involves them changing into skanky outfits in a port-a-potty. Magdalena changes quicker, but forgets to tie her shoes twice in the back. As a result, Sam wins. At the next station, Detroit, Lacey decides to go against Sam at trying to find a guitar pick in a garbage dumpster. Sam wins. At the next station, Nashville, Heather is chosen by Big John. Heather picks Mia. Their challenge is to hook up an amp in the electric guitar. During the challege, both women forget to plug in the amp cord for quite a while. Mia hooks up the amp first and wins. In Seattle, Brandi M. gets picked and chooses Mia to be her opponent. At this station, they have to rearrange the scrambled words to "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." Brandi M. is the first to rearrange the lyrics correctly and continues to the final station, Los Angeles, against Sam. For the challenge, both have to do hurdles over red velvet ropes and then push past fake security guards resembling Big John. Brandi M. wins and gets a date with Bret to a hockey game to see the Anaheim Ducks.

The girls plan a party for Bret’s birthday. He has a really good time and Sam’s sexual side really comes out on the pole. After Sam is done on the pole, however, Heather and Lacey try to make Sam really jealous by grinding up on Bret. As a result, Sam ditches the party to hang out in her room.

The next morning Sam is still angry about the previous night and she lashes out at Lacey. Lacey goes to talk to Bret and tells him everything. Bret says he understands, and goes upstairs to talk to Sam. Sam is folding her clothes and stops to talk with Bret about her jealousy issues. She really opens up to him about why she is so mistrusting.

Brandi M.’s date with Bret goes really well, however, while they are away, the rest of the girls receive a letter from Bret saying how he expects his date to run late — so he won’t be able to see them the rest of the night. He asks them to write why each of the other girls is the right person for him.

The next morning, Bret calls in Magdalena to his room to discuss why he hasn’t really gotten to know her yet. He says her personality isn’t exactly cold, but it does distance him from her. Magdalena doesn't have much to say to him, and at elimination she is chosen to go home. Sam is very sad to see her friend go, but also happy that she is still in the top girls seeking Bret.

Episode Seven: Show Me Your Hits (Aired August 26, 2007)

Bret says that he needs to figure out more about certain girls, naming Mia specifically. He then notes that he has a special challenge: the girls are to break up into teams for a photo shoot for a mock album cover. The two teams consist of Jes, Lacey and Sam, and then Brandi M., Mia and Heather. Mia and Jes both are named creative director for their teams, which would win them a solo date with Bret. Jes's team decides to do a "good vs. evil" concept, while the other team has Brandi M. cross dressing as a dirty man and Heather as a hot chick (though Mia describes her looking like a drag queen.) Both Lacey and Heather are shown trying to take control of their photo shoots besides the creative directors of their prospective teams. Eventually, the teams agree on the photo for their covers and return to the house.

Heather and Lacey complain when they return home, with Lacey claiming that if her team wins that she will fight to get the solo date with Bret. The girls get their criticisms from the assistant on the photo shoot. Lacey asks Jes if she can give the presentation of their teams cover to Bret, which insults Jes. Meanwhile, the other team receives heavy criticism for their cover, calling it confusing and possibly insulting to Bret, calling him old. The girls panic, and try to figure out a way to salvage the picture and concept. Meanwhile, Lacey and Jes fight over who was the real creative force behind the photo shoot, with Lacey saying that Jes was little more than a "hair and make-up artist." Eventually, Lacey walks away while Brandi M. flicks her off behind her back.

Bret returns from the studio to look at the cover mock-ups. First the "Broken Road" cover from Mia's team is shown, which confuses Bret at first. Mia then stumbles over explaining the cover, only for Bret to say the positive is that the colors pop. Then the "When Love Dances With the Devil" cover from Jes' team is revealed. The cover impressed Bret, though he is concerned about exposure in the Bible Belt. However, he chooses the When Love Dances... cover as the winner, giving Sam and Lacey a tandem date, while Jes gets a solo one. Lacey then goes to Bret's room to explain that she felt she was the real creative force behind the album cover. Afterwards, Jes comes to ask Bret why he's keeping Lacey around, when she seems so fake and crazy; Bret's best answer he can come up with is "there's just something about her." He then gives Jes a clue on their solo date, telling her to wear something warm and sexy.

Lacey and Sam go on their tandem date with Bret, going on a ride in a convertible Bentley, with Sam getting to sit shotgun due to a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Bret asks Sam if she thought Jes was a good creative director, which she quickly affirms. Lacey then jumps in to give her opinion again that Jes was just a make-up artist and offered nothing creative. While Lacey goes to the bathroom, Sam also asks Bret why he's keeping Lacey around when he knows that she can be manipulative. Bret now sheepishly admits he doesn't know why he's keeping her around. After the date, Jes' personal date is revealed to be a motorcycle ride to the beach.

Back at the house, Brandi M. and Heather start to do a "make-up" shoot in an attempt to distance themselves from Mia and the failed album cover. The photos include several topless pictures. After they take several pictures, they stick them to the door of his room for him to see. Bret is certainly surprised by the pictures, and he seems to come to the conclusion that it was Mia's fault that the album cover failed. Mia then comes up to discuss with him the situation, only for him to brush her off and tell her to see him at dinner with the "Sexy Six."

At dinner, Lacey begins to talk about her animal rights interests, which annoys Brandi M. and causes her to go to her room complaining of a headache. When Bret asks her what's wrong, Brandi admits that she is annoyed with Lacey, which seems to key Bret into the fact that no one in the house likes Lacey, and that she might not just be "crazy for me," but "really crazy." A few moments after returning to the dinner, Big John comes in to tell Bret he needs to make a decision on who to eliminate tonight.

At elimination, Mia is primarily nervous about being eliminated while several of the other girls just hope that Bret will realize how manipulative Lacey is and eliminate her. In the end though, Mia is eliminated, with Bret saying that any connection he feels with her was "too little, too late."

Episode Eight: Superfan Challenge (Aired September 2, 2007)

Bret's "super fans" interview and interact with the remaining five contestants. After the interviews the super fans decide that Heather should go on the date with Bret and while they are on their date the super fans spend time with Jes, Brandi M, Sam, and Lacey. On the date Heather gets her first tattoo which is the word "Bret" on the back of her neck. During the time at the house the super fans and Jes (with "help" from Brandi M. and Lacey) convince Sam not to leave the house and she agrees. After returning from his date with Heather Bret mets with the super fans again and they tell him that Sam is special and that Lacey is not for him. Bret states that all the other girls in the house think Lacey is crazy so why not his super fans.

At the elimination Heather gets the first pass, followed by Jes, then Brandi M.; leaving only Lacey and Sam. Bret calls Lacey down and gives her the last pass and then tells Sam that her tour has ended. Sam promises to remain friends and Bret tells her he hoped she would say they would remain more. After sharing a long passionate kiss Sam leaves the house and says that if Bret has to make her go home that was the way to do it.

Episode Nine: Vegas Baby (Aired September 9, 2007)

This episode takes place in Las Vegas, where the four remaining contestants watch Bret perform and also experience the band's rock-and-roll lifestyle. When they arrive at the hotel, Big John tells the women that they should have "their A-game on" because after the concert, they will be having an intimate dinner with Bret in his hotel room, and whichever woman impresses him the most will also enjoy a "nightcap" solo date.

After the concert, the women party with the members of the Bret Michaels Band. Lacey and Brandi M. become highly intoxicated, and Lacey becomes aggressively belligerent toward both Brandi and Heather, during which Brandi M. farts to keep Lacey away. Both Big John and Bret tell them to quiet down, but Lacey is drunk beyond reason. A few moments later, Big John escorts the women to Bret’s room. Lacey needs to be carried and continues to antagonize the other women as they wait for dinner to be served. At one point Lacey crawls onto the bar and knocks down a substantial amount of bottles, nearly falling off herself. She is incoherent and ready to pass out, so Bret sends Lacey to her room.

The remaining three try to enjoy dinner with Bret, but the presence of oysters on the table causes Brandi M. to vomit into her napkin. Jes and Bret escort her to the bathroom, and in a drunken haze, Brandi M. tells Bret that she loves him. Bret finds this "very emotional." Brandi is escorted to her room by Big John, and Bret chooses Jes over Heather because of the compassion she showed to both Lacey and Brandi M. Heather is very upset with Bret's decision.

Bret meets them poolside for private massages. During her massage, Brandi M. tells Bret that she really does love him and wants to work it out with him but doesn’t mention her conversion with Heather and Lacey. The two women demand to know if she told Bret how she feels, but don’t believe her when she says she did. Lacey decides to tell Bret how Brandi M. really feels and tells him about what she had said earlier. After the massages, Bret sends Brandi M. back to Los Angeles. She realizes that Bret must have heard something from Lacey or Heather and regrets her mistake of letting her guard down in front of them.

Heather and Lacey go on their date with Bret. Bret tells Heather that he’s confused by her and wonders if she’s truly devoted to him. Lacey sees her opportunity to plead her case, interrupting their conversation, reminding Bret that they haven’t gotten spend alone time together. Bret decides to take Lacey on a private date.

During the elimination, Bret chooses Jes, then Lacey. When Heather realizes from Bret’s speech that Brandi M. never told him about her true feelings, she interrupts Bret and tells him what Brandi had said. Bret asks Brandi M. how she really feels and she says that she doesn't think she can bring her guard down and be with him. Bret appears aggravated and eliminates her, saying that she should have voiced her feelings sooner.

Episode Ten: Meet the Parents (Aired September 16, 2007)

In this episode, Bret meets the remaining three girls' parents. While the families of Heather and Jes seem to interact with ease with each other and Bret, Lacey's family causes discomfort for Bret. During dinner at an L.A. restaurant, Lacey's dad reveals that Lacey is a 'Presidential Scholar' who lives off the largess of her family. Bret seems surprised at this information, given Lacey's earlier assertions that she was a struggling musician. Later in the dinner, Lacey's father demands that Bret reveal his true intentions with his daughter, insinuating that he may be after Lacey for her money. The father also insists that the two obtain a prenuptial agreement, which Bret finds presumptuous given that at this point he is merely trying to get to know Lacey, not marry her.

The next day at the house, Lacey and Heather butt heads when Heather overhears Lacey telling Bret that Heather is fake around her family and does not intend to quit stripping should she win. The rancor continues as Heather excoriates Lacey for being manipulative and fake, and Lacey calls Heather trashy. At one point, Heather angrily reveals in front of Lacey's family that she saw Lacey perform fellatio on Bret.

At the elimination, Bret notes that his decision is being based upon who is being honest and genuine with him and who is not. Jes gets to stay in the house. Lacey is called down next and is summarily kicked out because Bret sees that she's been lying to him the whole time. He says that he sees two sides to her, but that, in the end, the bad side would take over and he could not trust her. Lacey's other side has finally been revealed. Heather is called down last and is invited to continue to rock Bret's world.
