José Villa Soberón
José Ramón Villa Soberón was born in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba; on September 2, 1950. He studied art at the Escuela Nacional de Arte, ENA (English:The National School of Art). The school is located in Havana, Cuba. He also studied at the Academy of Plastic Arts in Prague. He is a professor at the Instituto Superior de Arte (I.S.A) in Havana.
He was part of many collective exhibitions, qmong them we can mention: in 1969 he was included in the collective exhibitions of painting and esculpture 'Exposición Escuela Nacional de Arte'in the Centro de Arte Internacional, Havana, Cuba. In 1971 he participated in the Salón Nacional para Artistas Jóvenes. Esculpture, painting, engraving, drawing and design in the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba. And in 1996 he was one of the selected artist to conform II Trienal Americana de Escultura. Argentina.
Awards
During his life he had obtained many awards an recognitions like the Third Prize in the Salón de Profesores e Instructores de Artes Plásticas, Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA), Havana, Cuba, 1973. In 1978 he obtained the Mention in Sculpture in the VII Salón Nacional Juvenil de Artes Plásticas, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba. In 1983 he gained the Prize in the Simposio Internacional de Escultura. Forma, Sol y Mar. Varadero, Matanzas, Cuba. And in 1996 he was awarded of the First Prize in the II Trienal Americana de Escultura, Argentina.
Principal work in public place
His works can be found in many places, among them we can mention 'Che, Comandante Amigo',1982. This pieces can be found in the Palacio Central de Pioneros Ernesto Che Guevara, Parque Lenin, Havana, Cuba. In 1986 he made 'Monumento a Martí' (José Villa y Rómulo Fernández), Plaza de Quito, Paseo de Havana, Madrid, Espanna. In 1992 he made 'Escultura ambiental', in the Campus de la Universidad de Valencia, Espanna. In this years also made the one Escultura ambiental, in the Exteriores del Museo de Bellas Artes, Santiago de Chile, Chile. And in 2000 he made the important esculpture: 'John Lennon', in the Park John Lennon, Vedado, Havana, Cuba.
