Narsapur is a town, Mandal and a municipality in West Godavari district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.Its geographical coordinates are 16° 27' 0" North, 81° 40' 0" East. Its original name was "NARASAPURAM". It was also known as "Nrusimhapuri" and "AbhinavaBhootapuri".
As of 2001 India census[1], Narsapur had a population of 58,508. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Narsapur has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 71%. In Narsapur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Tourist Attractions
River Godavari joins the Bay of Bengal near Narsapuram(6 Miles away). Sri Adikesava Embarmannar Swamy Kovela in Narsapuram is a famous temple. It is one of the famous vaishnava temples in India. It was constructed nearly 300 years back by Prasanagresara Puppala Ramanappa Naidu to fulfill his acharya's desire. This is the image temple of Sri Perambhudur Temple,Tamilnadu. This the only one of its kind in Andhra Pradesh. Every year Brahmotsavas for Adikeshava swamy and Thirunakshatra Utsavas for Ramanujacharyulu will take place between April and May for this gracious moment vishna acharyas and deviotes will come all across from india. This is the real eye feast for the vishnavas. Kapila Maleeswara Swami temple (Shivalayam), Rajagopala Swamy temple, Madana Gopala Swamy(Vishnalayam) and Jagannadha Swami Temple are among other famous temples in the town.
Apart from many temples, Narsapuram also has famous Churches and Mosques. The Christ Lutheran Church, a beautiful gothic church built in 1929 recently celebrated it's platinum jubilee. The church is a famous landmark and it's old bell can still be heard all over the town. Newly constructed Jain Temple adds a feather in secular cap of Narsapuram, owing to considerable Jain community settled here.
Apart from the above temples, the famous Antharvedi Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple can be reached from Narsapuram. Antarvedi(East Godavari District) is famous for the temple of Sri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy, built during the 15th -16th centuries. Antarvedi is located 10 km from Narsapuram, at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal and Godavari River. The experience of the trip from Narsapuram to Antarvedi by a steamer boat during rainy season when the river is flooded with water is memorable.
Perupalem beach which attacts a good number of tourists is just 18kms from Narsapuram. Perupalem beach is well known for its scenic beauty. During Karthika Masam (November & December) many people visit this place. The beach has tremendous potential with a natural bay and comparatively shallow and safe waters. Velankani Mata temple(Roman Catholic Shrine) is located on the shore, is worth a visit.
Interesting facts
Narsapuram is surrounded with rich rice crop fields and coconut fields. We can observe full greenery fields around the area. Nearby the town, now a days acqua culture and firshery is increasing, which is one of the income for the most of the people.
Lace is an art of stiching lace threads to forma door mats, door clothes, beutiful articles, bags etc. This is a lively hood for the rural poor ladies. Many lace businessmen originate near and around Narsapuram who deals business with Australia, UK & US.
There are few rice mills, ice factories situated in this town.
Apart of these, the town is mostly moderate and people are calm and there are no significant business or industries are situated in the town.
Narsapur is the centre of education for all the villages and small towns near by. There are two engineering colleges with in 25 KM radius.
There are government and private Arts & Science colleges in the town.
The town is far from busy life or modern life styles.
Government is planning to construct bridge across the river Godavari which is flowing one side of the town, which connects the town to East Godavari, which may be beneficial to the town in future days to increase the business.
Railway line for Bhimavaram to Vijayawada will end here. Three main trains to Hyderabad, Vizag and Tirupati will start here.
Chiranjeevi, Krishnamraju, Bapu (who are famous cine artists) were born here.
