MASH Mistakes Seasons 1-11

  • In 1/1 MASH ignores the Pusan Perimeter of June-Dec 1950; MASH Also received a fictionus "Certificate of Merit 4th Class"-as also a Meritatirous Unit Commeration" in 4/24; in realty it would have received a Presidential Unit Citation.
  • IN 1/3 and 1/4 MASH is under command of General "Wilson Spaudling Barker"; in 4/16 his name is given as General "Bradley Barker"; also the early MASH epsiodes tell that MASH is under the control of US I Corps-a unit which was in Korea 1950 to 1953-but not in the DMZ until the last year of the war!
  • In 1/11 Major Burns has anemia-yet in 5/24 he is forced to give blood!
  • In 1/12 Hawkeye descends into a foxhole in summertime; the only battle on Xmas in Korea was at the Chosin Resoviror-which was the coldest on record. {Despite this epsiode being Xmas 1950, Xmas 1950 is repeated twice-in 7/15 and 9/5!}
  • In 2/10 Plot Hole-the sniper is recovering-after being hit by half a clip of .45 calibur bullets!
  • In 2nd, 3rd and 4th season parts of epsiodes are cut out of syndicated versions-in:
    • 1/8 The Officers Latrine is blown up with Blake inside.
    • 2/10 Hawkeye & Trapper John dress Burns up as "General MacArthur";
    • 3/1 Steele making Blake and Burns salute him and being shot at and the anoucment of Steele new postion;
    • 3/22 Klinger's bribe to Blake;
    • 4/7 HAwkeye and BJ have the POW make Burns a fool of himself.
  • In 3/5 Ethopian soldier at MASH; in real timeline the unit he was with wouldn't be at DMZ until 1953!
  • In 3/6 Radar mentions he wants to see Son of Godzilla-a 1967 movie and in 3/13 Hawkeye remarks about Godzilla which won't be made until 1954!
  • In 3/16 anouncement of Mark Wayne Clark as Army commander on May 12, 1952-who replaced Matthew Ridgeway who replaced Douglas MacArthur in April 1951-yet in 3/21 Douglas MacArthur vist-which occured Jan-Mar 1951! {Furthermore in epsiode 2/11 a December 1951 epsiode mention is made of Douglas MacArthur's "homecoming" of April 19, 1951!!}
  • In 3/22 Paymaster Captain Sloan wears a Dress uniform as does Captain BJ HUnnicut and Majors Freedman and Winchester when they first arrive at MASH 4077; the correct dress for the front lines is a fatigue/camafaluge/ or seasonal uniform.
  • In 3/24 Blake gets "points" for discahrge. It has been pointed out that "Service Points" were from World War II and not in Korea for doctors; also epsiode shows Blake going home in Civilian suit-even though he was still part of the Army until his offical discharge! {In real life he would have been picked up by the MPs!}
  • In 4/1 Hawkeye claims he and Trapper John were roommates for a year {June 1950+ 1=June 1951}; {In 3/8 Hawkeye reamrks on being another MASH Doctor had been there 2 years!} yet in 4/3 Potter arrives it is September 19, 1952 while in 4/1 & in 3/16 Eisenhower's pledge to go to Korea were made in Oct 1952! Frank Burns reign as acting C.O. lasted "one week" {Hunnicut remark in 4/7}.
  • In 4/6 the POW is Korean; at this late stage of the war the enemy was the Chinese. Furthermore the gun he gives up is a German MP40; Chinese & North Koreans used a PPSH-41.
  • In 4/7 Potter remarks that this is their 27 wedding anniversary {1916+27=1953} yet in later epsiode when the new Year is welcomed by Potter and MASH 4077 its 1951!
  • In 4/10 Ned Beatty plays a tough paratrooper Chaplain on MASH. Several goofs-although he wears jump wings he doesn't have either paratrooper Jump boots or paratrooper DUI on his uniform!
  • In 4/11 Burns has a kimchi pot dug up in field just outside "The Swamp" and in 7/8 Klinger is on hill just oustside MASH and finds he and Winchester are just 200 yards from MASH-despite fact MASH is surrounded by a minefield {1/20}!
  • In 4/14 no "Colonel Chaffey" served in Korean War-although General Adna Chaffee served in Boxer Rebellion of 1900.
  • In 4/23 The 1950's movietone clips which are in this epsiode show Douglas MacArthur APril 1951 retirement before the anoucement of the Chinese Army entering Korea on OCt 24, 1950-despite Potter arrival Sept 19, 1952 {4/3}!
  • In 5/2 Klinger claims he sent 3 years of his life amassing the "Klinger Collection" apparently the 3 years in Korea are ment-since 1/4 -making this year 1953. Yet the only time a MASH unit near Seoul became the "Front Lines" is from June 24 to August 4 1950! Furthermore in 6/1 Klinger claims he has been wearing dresses for two year anniverssary {April 22}. Plot Holes are Klinger's remarks of "Two years"-a real timeline would have been 3 Years{1953}; and in 3/16 date of May 12, 1953!
  • In 5/6 Colonel Flagg wants to send out the "215th Airborne Divison" in search of Major Houlihan. There never existed a "215th Airborne Division".
  • In 5/12 Hawkeye spells M-O-U-S-E. A reference to the Walt Disney Mickey Mouse Club that won't appear until 1955!
  • In 5/16 the two Navy doctores are from the USS Essex (CV-9) which in the Korean War was stationed off the east coast of Korea-until 1953 when it was stationed off the west coast of Korea! {in 3/8 the USS Essex CV-9 is mentioned as being off Inchon {West coast} in 1952! Likewise in 11/9 it is implied that the USS Coral Sea (CV-43) is stationed near Korea-when in fact during the 1950's it was stationed off the US coastline and the Mediterranean Sea!
  • In 6/19 Potter claims to heard Doris Day sing Sentimental Journey a dozen years before {1941}-this song was publsihed in 1944 and sung by Day in 1945!
  • In 6/22 {George Lindsey} "Captain Dupree" graduated from University of Arkansas Medical School in 1944-and subject to World War II!
  • In 6/23 Winchester claims he's been at MASH "6 Months" -which would make it September 1953!-and mentions are made of the first successful open heart surgery-which happened Sept 2, 1952-which is incompatable not only with Sept 1953 but also with Derby Day which happens the last two weeks in April! LAstly the "3rd Armored" is mentioned-neither the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment or the 3rd Armored Division were in Korea!
  • In 7/2 Hawkeye storms the Peace Talks and prescribes for the US General/negoiator "Tomlin"-in actually the first negoiator was US Admirial C. Turner Joy; later the negoiator was Mark Wayne Clark.
  • In 7/6 the medic's unit the 5th Regimental Combat Team was in the Korean War-but from Jan 1950 to Jan 1952 it was with the 24th Division US and later under U.S. IX Corps-not U.S. I Corps.
  • In 7/14 Houilhan claims this is 1st annivsary of BJ at MASH-which would make it September 1953!
  • In 8/2 the President is given as Harry Truman{1945-1953)-despite 4/4 where the President is given as Dwight Eisenhower{1953-1961}!
  • In 8/10 the day after Thanksgiving with Major WInchester at MASH-which would make it November 1953! Furthermore look at the background in scene where Hawkeye and BJ are "lost"-it is the mountain range which appears in the opening teaser of each MASH epsiode!{Furthermore the jeep accident involving Hawkeye and BJ would have at least resulted in serious injures to both of them!!}
  • In 8/15 the year is given as 1951 and Douglas MacArthur commander in Korea!
  • In 9/9 Winchester remarkes that the 1947 wine is "4 years old" {1951!}
  • In 9/6 KLinger and Winchester lose bets after the Brooklyn Dodgers lose the OCt 1951 World Series-despite fact Winchester arrives after Sept 1952!
  • In 9/14 the old man teachs Winchester Karate; in Korea the self defense is tae-kwon-do.
  • In 10/7 May 1952-Potter reads Al Capp L'll Abner marring Daisey Mae-which happened March 1952!!
  • In 10/8 and 10/9 Potter claims to have had the camp checked for stolen items. Yet when thief is exposed-the items are just to the side of the mess tent under a tarp and a sign marked "Danger-Explosives". Several plot holes"
    • 1) For obvious weapons real potential explosives near a MASH?hospital would have been either locked up in the supply hut or blown up at a safe distance. Thus it should have been a dead give away that the "explosives dump" was a fake-something an old regular such as Potter should have known!
    • 2) How did Hawkeye and BJ spy on the thief without letting themselves be seen?
    • 3) THe thief was armed with a pistol. Hawkeye and BJ were armed with a camera-what was to prevent the thief from panicking and firing off his weapon?
  • In 10/14 one tray of eggs is shown being spilled on the ground and its implied that all the eggs are lost on the ground-yet a few seconds before the cook is shown with at least Two trayfuls of eggs in the kitchen!! Furthermore Mulcahy would at least have been court-martialed for interfering with the MPS trying to take the AWOL back to his unit and trying to invoke a archaic right of "Santuary" of the Church; lastly the AWOL had no weapon when he came into the mess tent-how did he pick up a rifle in the mess hall? {Klinger as Company Clerk should have locked up all weapons in the supply hut-and should have been court-martialed for neglience!}
  • In 10/15 358th Engineers are mentioned-a World War II Formation!
  • in 10/17 Winchester mentions being at a battalion Aid Station at Battle of Pork Chop Hill which happend in March-July 1953 and BJ remarks on casualites caused by Douglas MacArthur who lost his command in April 1951! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.53.145.153 (talk) 16:42, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • In 11/2 the Soldier getting sick of food after "Thanksgiving" was bombed-happened in 1944 during the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest during World War II!
  • In 11/3 A North Korean Pilot did defect-in September 1953!
  • In 11/6 Marilyn Monroe visted troops in Korea-after the Korean War!
  • In the series finale Freedman talks about how people think I Love Lucy is real; while this comedy was on during the Korean War-it would not become popular until after 1953!!
  • At least a dozen times writers recycled{?} material from old epsiodes to later season epsiodes: {One example is a early Colonel Blake episode the Operating Room catchs fire and Trapper John puts it out; another time during the Colonel Potter epsiode in the waiting room of the O.R. the laundry catchs fire-put out by Klinger and Radar. Still another example of reused material is when Radar is clerk and MASh get caught in a artillery crossfire and anotehr example when Klinger is clerk and MASH get caught in a artillery crossifre}. More examples of reused material:
    • Nurses running from showers-wrapped in towels:
  • At least twice in the series nurses have to run from the showers because of emergency operations. Four variations are when a nurse has to flee from shower after Klinger has gasoline on himself! In 4/6 the nurses have to flee from the shower before Frank Burns crushs the shower with a tank! Other epsiodes are 7/7-Major Houilhan forced to run from Bathtub after Klinger goes mad from heat stress and In another epsiode HOulihan is taking a shower when she chases a Korean out of shower stall}.

Datelines

Who is adding month and year to some of the episode descriptions? Very very few MASH episodes cite a date, and a larger subset (but still a minority) are identifiable with an approximate date. We all know that there are too many inconsistencies and continuity errors in the series to allow any kind of timeline to be drawn ... so why tag any episodes with dates? It is particularly useless to do so when some episodes featuring Potter, Hunnicutt and Winchester are "dated" prior to episodes featuring Blake, McIntyre and Burns. Only one story in the whole series really hinges on a real historical event, and that is the final episode. Darcyj 08:29, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

the guy right above you. the dingleberry who keeps posting under the Miami University general ip starting with "134.53.145" i cringe inwardly every time i see those numbers in the mash area, since it's the same dweeb who likes to post five million pieces of minutiae that no one else cares about. Episode notability

With the exception of "Abyssinia, Henry", the individual episode pages for Season Three fail notability guidelines, inluding the notability guidelines for television episodes, and have been tagged accordingly. Might I suggest these articles are improved with real-world information (ie. referencing with reliable sources) to assert notability, removing trivia (seeWP:TRIVIA) quotes, overly long plot summaries (a breach of copyright) or consider merging the information onto this season page. Otherwise, when these pages come up for review in fourteen days, they may be redirected, merged or deleted. If you want any help or info, then come to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television/Episode coverage. Thanks. Gwinva 19:13, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
