Thank you

Thank you for your recent report at the administrators' noticeboard about a vandal user. You did an excellent job reverting the vandalism and restoring the integrity of the articles. If you encounter a similar situation again, you should do a couple of things differently.

Instead of warning a user "by hand", as you did, you should provide a formal [[WP:WARN|user warning template such as {{subst:uw-vandalism1}}, which gives you the following message:

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although we invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia, at least one of your recent edit, such as the one you made to Dee Why, New South Wales]], was not constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.

If the user does not stop, you can escalate to uw-vandalism2, 3, and 4, and after that you should file a report at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism to block the user. Sometimes you can start the warnings at a number higher than 1 if the vandalism is already severe for multiple edits. In rare cases it is appropriate to block vandals without any warning at all. The general advice is to use your judgment, don't bite the newcomers, and ask the administrators if you need any help (just like you did this time, though I'm actually not an administrator). Let me know if you have any questions. Shalom Hello 06:51, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Packed to the Rafters, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Packed to the Rafters, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Realkyhick 07:17, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Packed to the Rafters

Packed to the Rafters, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Packed to the Rafters satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Packed to the Rafters and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Packed to the Rafters during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Remy B 14:02, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Architecture Styles

Hi. are you any sort of expert on architectural styles? Am trying to learn to recognise them but it's more complicated than I thought.Especially trying to learn Edwardian style at the moment. Do you know anything about it or books on the subject? It's not that easy to find books with pix etc that show these things. If you know any articles that need pix, let me know; I might have something. Sardaka 09:41, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I found a great site on Oz architectural styles, if you're interested in boning up on them: www.sydneyarchitecture.com/STYLES/search-style.htm. It has all the styles and photos of examples. Just what I was looking for.Sardaka 12:46, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see you took some photos in Point Piper and the surrounds. Did you get a picture of Kilmory (the large mansion on the top of the hill in Point Piper)? JRG 10:06, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on The Good Guys (Australia), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because The Good Guys (Australia) is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting The Good Guys (Australia), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. West Maling

Do you know that house West Maling at Penshurst? Fabulous. I've just put a shot of it in the Federation Arch. article. Will also put it in my Sydney Architecture gallery. Are you aware of the latter? You might be able to use some of the shots some time. Feel free.

Twinkle

Hello. If you upload Mozilla Firefox and then install Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Scripts/Twinkle you won't have to copy and paste warnings into vandals talk pages, its automatic. It also has many other benefits. Also check out the pics in this article - Malabar Battery. Cheers_Ad@m.J.W.C. (talk) 09:02, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. I plan on finding more places like Malabar Battery. I know there is one at La Parouse not far from the Malabar one and there are even more at Watsons bay, Vaucluse and the Chullora Railyards that need looking into. The one at Chullora might be the most difficult to access and a night in jail if you get caught doing so, or even longer. With the Mozilla FF you can bring up an entire menu of warnings, so after reverting vandalism by an ip or user, you are automatically directed to the offenders talk page, after this you click warn at the top of the screen then select the appropriate warning for the occasion.
