Erik Edman [IPA: 'eːrɪk 'eːdmɑn] (born November 11, 1978, in Huskvarna, Sweden) is a professional Swedish footballer, currently playing for Wigan Athletic F.C..

Edman is a very experienced left back for his club and country. He has played for Helsingborgs IF and AIK in Sweden, Karlsruher SC in Germany, SC Heerenveen in the Netherlands, Tottenham Hotspur in England and Rennes in France. Edman also has a a huge amount of international experience, being featured in the Swedish national team at Euro 2004 and 2006 FIFA World Cup. (he was part of the 2002 FIFA World Cup squad, but did not play).

By now, Erik has scored five times in official matches. The fans of Tottenham Hotspur will always remember his stunning goal from 35 yards against Liverpool on April 16, 2005, which kept all of the Liverpool fans in silence at Anfield. He also scored a free-kick for the Swedish national team in the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification against Bulgaria at the Vassil Levski Stadium on March 26, 2005; a goal for Heerenveen on March 13, 2002, in the match Heerenveen 3 - 1 Fortuna; another goal for Heerenveen in the Amstel Cup 1/4 final against FC Utrecht (3-1 lost) on January 30th 2002, and a goal for Helsingborgs IF on May 17, 1999, in the match against Västra Frölunda IF (1-0 won).

He wears number 5 for the Swedish National Squad.

Personal life

Erik Edman married Hanna Kjellsson in December 2006. Erik and Hanna have a son named Elias, born in September 2005.
