KrisWorld
KrisWorld is Singapore Airlines' in-flight entertainment system. It is an advanced system that is available in all classes of service on all aircraft of SIA. It currently has three versions operational and was introduced in 1995. It is considered one of the major advertising tools for SIA and one of the reasons for Singapore Airlines popularity around the world.
History
During 1993 and 1994, SIA was looking for a new entertainment system that it could offer to its passengers. During this time, only two major airlines has an fully pledged IFE system for all passengers and classes - Emirates and Virgin Atlantic. However their systems were not really advanced; costly to run; and offered only 10 channels of video programming at the most.
Singapore Airlines however looked at a system that worked on a digital network platform; passed FAA tests and was central for programming updates and upgrades in the future. This entertainment system was made by Panasonic Avionics Corporation (previously incorporated as Matsushita Avionics Systems).
After being impressed with the quality and offerings, they signed a deal to retrofit their Boeing 747-400 aircraft with the system. This retrofit began in 1995 and was finished by 1996-7. At the same time, the new Celestar A340-300 was about to be introduced, at this time, it was automatically installed with the aircraft's delivery. The same process was also used for the introduction of the Boeing 777 aircraft.
By 2000 the Boeing 747-400 Megatop; Celestar A340 and Jubilee 777 were the only aircraft to have the system for all classes. The other aircraft - Boeing 747-300; Airbus A300 and Airbus A310 did not have this system, however all aircraft later retired. That same year; SIA introduced Wisemen 3000 into First and Raffles class.
