Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute
The Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute is a private Mennonite Brethren Christian school located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It was founded in 1945. It has approximately 600 students from Grade 6 to Grade 12.
The school dabbled in controversy in late 2007 for suspending students for creating and/or joining groups i.e. FaceBook, relating to the suspenion of students, teaching methods of some teachers, and "fight fan clubs".[1] The school drew criticism from free speech activists, citing the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom as a basis for free speech. Currently, some students and their parents have threatened legal action[2], causing the school to temporarily stop its current actions. The school has yet to release a public statement, causing some students and teachers to speak on their behalf to the media.
