Kevin Sacre (born Kevin Bignell in 1978)[1] is a British actor. He is most famous for his performance as Jake Dean in the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, a role he has played since 2002.[1]

He studied at Aylesbury Grammar School for Boys, in Buckinghamshire. He graduated from Middlesex University with a BA in performing arts. He had formerly wanted to do a degree in biochemistry, but changed his mind at the last minute. He had a role on the ITV soap Night and Day as Dennis Doyle. Sacre made a non-speaking cameo appearance in the Ricky Gervais show Extras sitting behind Gervais' character at the BAFTA award ceremony.

Kevin has been known to play pranks on the set. In his backstage tour on the official Hollyoaks website, he is seen spraying shaving cream all over Ricky Whittle's car.[2]

He made a guest appearance on The Weakest Link alongside co-star Ali Bastian.

Personal life

Sacre stated that he has gotten into a number of situations with his "mate" Jonny which he describes as "unprintable".[3]

He has remained friends with his Night and Day co-star Stephanie Leonidas.[4]

In early June 2006, Sacre contracted hand, foot and mouth disease and had to take time off from filming Hollyoaks.[5] He has a scar on his lip from being hit by a hockey puck when he was 18 years old.[4]

Controversy

Sacre inadvertently placed himself in the centre of a political storm in early 2008 when, in an interview with GQ magazine, he made ill-advised and poorly informed comments about the Prophet Mohammed. Sacred stated that "he's not even that good", and asserted that he found the Prophet's claims to have heard the voice of God "misguided at best, and at worst, downright irresponsible". British Muslims immediately boycotted Hollyoaks in protest, and threatened only to lift the embargo upon Sacre's immediate resignation from the show and a full written retraction of the comments. Sacre was immediately written out of the show by the spineless Lime Productions executives, but to his credit, he has so far refused to submit to such blatant intellectual bullying, despite numerous failed attempts upon his life.
