List of Grand Theft Auto IV characters

A number of recurring characters appear in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV, set circa 2008. The characters that appear in Grand Theft Auto IV are relatively diverse and relative to the respective boroughs of Liberty City they are based in, belonging to various gangs and ethnic groups. The player controls Niko Bellic, an immigrant from the Balkans who was in the Yugoslavian war. According to Dan Houser, "virtually none of the characters from the previous games are returning, as a lot of them are dead anyway." This is further enhanced in-game by graffiti on a section of wall in the city, featuring each of the previous protagonist's names alongside messages such as "R.I.P", "We miss you" and "We'll never forget you" suggesting that they have indeed died prior to the events of GTA IV.

Unlike previous games in the series, the voice actors of Grand Theft Auto IV do not include notable and high-profile celebrities, instead opting for lesser known actors such as Michael Hollick, Jason Zumwalt, Moti Margolin, Thomas Lyons, Timothy Adams and Coolie Ranx. However, several high-profile DJs host the various radio stations within the game such as Karl Lagerfeld and real life Reggaeton singer Daddy Yankee and real life comedians Katt Williams and Ricky Gervais can be seen at the Comedy Club. Gervais can also be heard being interviewed on the in-game radio.

For the first time in the series, Grand Theft Auto IV features "morality choices" in several points of the game, in which the player is forced to choose between killing a character or sparing their life and killing one of two characters. The game also has multiple endings, which is determined by a decision the player makes with the main antagonist towards the conclusion of the storyline: Revenge or Deal. Each choice affects the missions the player can partake and the fate of some characters.

For the purposes of this list, missions specific to a particular ending in which a character is killed in are labeled "(Revenge)" and "(Deal)" respectively.

Major characters

Niko Bellic

Niko Bellic

Introduced in: "The Cousins Bellic"

Niko Bellic is a fictional character of unspecific Eastern European ethnicity in the Grand Theft Auto video game series. He is the main protagonist and playable character of Grand Theft Auto IV. He is 30-years old, between 5’11” and 6’2” (1,80-1,88 m) and is 190-200 lbs (86-90 kg).

Niko grew up in war-torn Yugoslavia ; his father was a bully who never believed in him, but his mother was very caring and felt sad that a decent person like Niko had to grow up in such a harsh place. Niko fought in the Bosnian War on the Serbian side as an "angry" teenager, where he witnessed and committed numerous atrocities which deeply affected him, giving him a cynical view on life and serious feelings of regret and depression. A defining moment in the war for Niko was when his army unit of fifteen young men (including him) were ambushed by the enemy. Niko barely escaped with his life, but most of his friends were killed - he later discovered that two others also survived. Realizing that one of them sold out the unit for money, Niko vowed to track down the culprit, not solely for revenge but because he needed closure, and that doing so would put his demons to rest.

When the war ended, work was hard to come by for Niko. His cousin, Roman, moved to America to start a new life in Liberty City. Niko, knowing only violence most of his life, turned to the criminal underworld for the next ten years, while at the same time searching for the two men who survived the ambush. At some point during this interval, he briefly spent time imprisoned. Sometime after he was released, Niko joined a human trafficking ring run by Rodislav Bulgarin. Niko eventually discovered that Florian Cravic, one of the two survivors of the ambush, was living in Liberty City.

When a boat sank during one smuggling run into Italy, Niko managed to swim to safety, but everything else was lost. Bulgarin believed Niko sunk the boat and escaped with the money onboard. Niko denied this, but Bulgarin's decision was final and he was too powerful a figure to fight back against. Niko quickly joined the merchant navy and fled Bulgarin. He spent the next seven months at sea, befriending the crew of the Platypus and contemplating Roman's request for him to come to America. Roman had been asking Niko to come to Liberty City to share a new life of money and women, which Niko wanted, but he mainly wanted to find Cravic and escape Bulgarin's wrath.

Upon arriving in Liberty City, Niko realizes that Roman's prior tales of success were lies; he lives in a tiny apartment, runs a small taxi depot and owes gambling debts to several criminals. Niko ends up working for Roman, protecting his cousin from the loan sharks that keep harassing him. Roman soon loans Niko's services to friends and enemies alike, which angers Niko although he needs the money, and sets in motion the events of the game.

Though Niko is seemingly a cold person, he is in fact friendly and caring. These qualities allow him to make friends quickly, often with benefits. Little Jacob, Packie McReary and Dwayne Forge are just some of the people he has helped and befriended.

Niko's view of American culture is one of confusion and mild disgust. The rampant materialism annoys him and he has trouble relating to Roman's fascination with the country. Plus, after working for so many criminals, he feels that everyone in Liberty City is a crook.

Roman Bellic

Roman Bellic is Niko's 31 year old cousin who has lived in Liberty City for 15 years. Roman claims to be living the American Dream and that he has two women, four hot tubs and fifteen sports cars, but in reality owns a gritty taxi firm in Broker, Liberty City's version of Brooklyn. He successfully manages to persuade his cousin Niko to move to the city using this deception. Roman is also heavily in debt with various figures around the city, like the Russian mafia in Liberty City, because of a gambling problem. Despite Niko's frustration with Roman's lie, Roman is optimistic and claims to be in the process of achieving the "American Dream", but it just takes time and hard work to achieve it: he arrived in Liberty City with nothing, but he worked and saved enough money to buy a taxi, and when he got enough money driving the taxi, he bought another. Soon, he bought the depot, where he lived for a year because he was saving money for an apartment. Niko admits that Roman has indeed found some success in America because of Mallorie, Roman's longtime girlfriend whom he plans to wed.

Later on in the game, his apartment and business are burned down by the Russian mafia, and as a result he sets up another in Bohan (which is the Liberty City version of the Bronx) with the insurance money. He then moves in with Mallorie, but is kidnapped again after a losing streak at a gambling den. It is revealed to be a trap by Dimitri to lure Niko there and have him killed, but that too fails and the cousins escape. Roman ultimately buys a penthouse in Algonquin, finally living the "American Dream". After the player gets his relationship high enough with Roman, the player may use his phone to have Roman send a taxi to take you anywhere for free, though the success/failure of having one available is random. During the game's finale, if Niko chooses the "Revenge" storyline, Roman weds Mallorie and assists Niko in pursuing Pegorino after he kills Kate McReary. In the "Deal" storyline, Roman is killed at his wedding.

Dimitri Rascalov

Dimitri Rascalov

Killed in: "A Dish Best Served Cold" (Revenge)/"A Revenger's Tragedy" (Deal)

Dimitri Rascalov is Russian criminal. He serves as the main antagonist of the game.

Dimitri is initially shown as Mikhail Faustin's right-hand man; they are old friends from their army and prison years. Dimitri is the more sensible of the two, although it is claimed that Dimitri has an addiction to painkillers. Dimitri becomes increasingly annoyed with Mikhail's unpredictably violent leadership, which has given their organization more enemies and caused the law to monitor them more closely. He later betrays Mikhail and orders Niko to assassinate him in order to prevent a gang war with Kenny Petrovic - before he is executed, Mikhail warns that America has made Dimitri greedy and he will betray Niko as well. Niko later meets with Dimitri at a warehouse to collect his reward for the killing, where Dimitri does indeed betray him and reveals his new partner, Rodislav Bulgarin, Niko's former boss in the human trafficking ring, who orders his men to kill Niko. Little Jacob comes to Niko's rescue and mentions that Dimitri has escaped and they can deal with him another time. Dimitri orders his men to set fire to Roman's apartment and taxi depot, effectively running Niko and Roman out of Broker. The cousins escape to Bohan to avoid any further trouble, after receiving death threats from Dimitri via the phone. Dimitri attempts to kill Niko twice more, once by kidnapping Roman to lure Niko to a warehouse filled with his men, and another time by sending Bulgarin and his men to sabotage a hostage exchange between the McReary crime family (with Niko) and the Ancelotti crime family. Dimitri calls Niko after both attempts, furious that he was not killed and threatening future attempts on his life.

Towards the conclusion of the main storyline, the Pegorino crime family - whom Niko works for - finds a buyer for a large amount of heroin that they stole earlier in the game, which would finally put their organization on the map. Dimitri is the buyer, putting Niko in an awkward position - the player has to make a choice of either dealing drugs with Dimitri or dealing revenge and killing him. If the player chooses to pursue "Revenge", Niko executes Dimitri in cold blood aboard his tanker. Afterwards, Don Jimmy Pegorino, furious after the betrayal, shows up at Roman and Mallorie's wedding and kills Kate McReary in revenge. If the player chooses to strike a "Deal", Dimitri again betrays Niko and sends henchmen to Roman's wedding to assassinate him, killing Roman instead. Niko tracks Dimitri and Pegorino down at an abandoned casino in Alderney and Dimitri executes Pegorino before escaping. Niko chases him to Happiness Island, before ensuing in a final confrontation in which Dimitri meets an alternate, darker fate before the Statue of Happiness.

Brucie Kibbutz

Brucie Kibbutz

Introduced in: "Logging On"

Bruce "Brucie" Kibbutz is a fitness enthusiast and loud mouth, who enjoys fine women and cars. He enjoys the attention he gets from being rich and is a steroid user, specifically "bull shark testosterone". Brucie seems to be very cocky and annoying to Niko, but the two manage to become unlikely friends. He sports a tattoo of a Chinese character meaning "Me" or "I" and a necklace that reads "No. 1". On his back is a tattoo meaning "transvestite" (人妖) His personality is supposedly modeled after the popular internet personality, FPS Doug. Brucie owns a garage by Roman's first taxi depot in Broker called "Brucie's Executive Auto Garage." Niko suspects that Brucie's macho behavior is due to hidden low self-esteem (Brucie mentions that he was picked on for being overweight as a child). When Niko later learns that the people he has been killing for Brucie was mainly due to Brucie's roid rage, Niko absolves their business relationship, but they continue as friends and Niko can continue stealing cars and participate in races for him. Once Niko's relationship with him is high enough, Brucie will provide free helicopter rides for him.

Francis McReary

Can be killed in: "Blood Brothers"

Francis McReary is the Deputy Commissioner of the Liberty City Police Department. He very much wants to be Commissioner, but with word going around that the current Commissioner is retiring, blackmailers have emerged with evidence of all the "bad things" he has done. Francis first meets Niko briefly during a publicity shoot with Manny Escuela and later contacts Niko confidentially, wanting to pay him to silence those who wish to expose his corruption. He also knows that Niko killed Mikhail Faustin, but promises to not turn him in as further incentive for Niko's cooperation. Francis is, above all, a hypocrite. He believes that his position automatically makes him a good person and should negate all of his corruption. The McReary family is fully aware of this - as a youth, he became an altar server and stole the church collection plate, but believed the theft should be overlooked because he was a altar server. The only reason why Francis does not take down his own family is because his incarcerated brother, Gerald, has a lot of dirt on Francis' past and will alert the authorities the moment Francis tries anything.

Francis wears a black suit and tie, has a short mustache, and has slicked blond hair with a strong side parting. He attempts to take his brother, Derrick, down by having Niko assassinate him while the brothers are talking on a bench in a park. However, Niko has a choice of whom to kill. If Niko kills Derrick, Francis provides him with a more detailed version of the suspect detail system, and can also remove three star wanted levels. Killing him changes the storyline slightly, and the dialogue of McReary family members.

Patrick McReary

Patrick McReary

Introduced in: "Luck of the Irish"

Patrick "Packie" McReary is an Irish thug who is also the heir to Liberty City's declining Irish Mob. Youngest of the McReary family, he is related to corrupt police detective Francis McReary, Derrick McReary, Kate McReary and Gerry McReary. He lives with his mother and sister, although he doesn't seem to like them much, and he hated his late father. Kate McReary, his sister, shows an "interest" in Niko, but he warns him away from her at first - later in the game, he supports the coupling very much. Those who know him refer to him as "Packie." He is also a close friend of Elizabeta. Packie admits he has a bit of a drug problem and says it's the reason he has not done anything with his life. When drunk, he loudly resents having to always take orders from Gerry. His special ability for being friends with Niko is providing him with specialized bombs, which can be attached to cars, and detonated with the cell phone.

Little Jacob

Introduced in: "Jamaican Heat"

Jacob "Little Jacob" Hughes is a Jamaican arms dealer who lives in Dukes and sells Niko weapons out of the trunk of his car. He and Roman are good friends and he appears on cover-art for the game. He may be 5'8"-5'10" of height, and also may weigh between 175 to 185 pounds. It can be found out that he is 26 years old. After doing a few storyline missions for him, you have the option of calling him to see if he has a job for you. He assists Niko several times later on, helping find who ripped off Elizabeta's drug deal and eventually providing back-up when Niko takes on Dimitri and Pegorino. His special ability for being friends with Niko is selling him weapons and armor (with the exception of the rocket launcher), for lower prices than those offered by gun shops.

Little Jacob is voiced by Coolie Ranx.

Supporting characters

Ray Boccino

Introduced in "Harboring a Grudge"

Killed in "Pest Control..."

Raymond "Ray" Boccino is a Lower Algonquin based Capo that works for the Pegorino crime family. He has a great temper, once throwing a man into a dump truck for not paying him back. He hires Niko for several jobs, mainly revolving around a huge diamond deal with Isaac Roth that ultimately fails. In return for Niko's help, he helps locate Florian Cravic, the man Niko had tracked to Liberty City and suspects of betraying his old army unit. The diamond deal is not Ray's first failed large-scale venture, which upsets Don Jimmy Pegorino greatly - he believes that Ray is just a dumb thug that managed to survive long enough to climb the hierarchy and is not very good at organized crime. Ray also becomes slightly jealous of Niko as he gains more favor with the Don. He is eventually killed at the request of Pegorino, who thinks he is a rat.

Ray is voiced by Joe Barbara.

Phil Bell

Introduced in: "No Way on the Subway"

Phil Bell is the front operator for the Pegorino crime family in Alderney. Phil maintains that he is a legitimate businessman, managing construction yards and the Pegorino-owned Honker's Gentleman's Club based in Tudor. The authorities have his places of business bugged, so he speaks in generalities that will not implicate him in anything and he is always extra cautious with his planning. His caution often puts him at odds with capo Ray Boccino, who is far more daring with his crimes. Although Don Jimmy Pegorino says Phil is his best associate, he is also 90% Irish and that fact is frowned upon by the Five Families. Ironically, Phil may be having an affair with Pegorino's wife, but Pegorino does not believe the rumors. In fact, Pegorino chooses to whack Ray instead of Phil, who is merely an associate in the organization, when he believes one of the two is a snitch. Phil is divorced and is very bitter at his ex-wife, who won full custody of his children.

Phil Bell is voiced by Frank Bonsangue.

Jimmy Pegorino

Introduced in: "Pegorino's Pride"

Killed in: "Out of Commission" (Revenge)/"A Revenger's Tragedy" (Deal)

Don James "Jimmy Peg" Pegorino is a mobster heavily involved in drugs distribution, head of the Alderney based Pegorino crime family. The Pegorinos also have an hangout in Little Italy, the Drusilla's Ristorante. Jimmy Pegorino's main goal is to see his crime family being named part of the Liberty City Cosa Nostra "Commission". The main five families of Liberty City (the Ancelotti, Pavano, Messina, Gambetti and Lupisella crime syndicates) think that the Pegorinos are nothing more than a South Alderney gang. He appears in the final mission seeking Niko's help in selling drugs to Dimitri Rascalov. In the "Revenge" storyline, he kills Kate McReary in retaliation for Niko ruining the drug deal by killing Dimitri, thus taking the role of the final boss of the game. In the "Deal" storyline, he is killed by Dimitri in the final mission.

Pegorino is voiced by Tony Patellis

Mallorie Bellic

Mallorie Ramos is the Puerto Rican wife of Roman Bellic. Mallorie is Roman's girlfriend for the first part of the storyline before becoming his fiancée. She owns a house in Bohan which becomes the location for a new safehouse after Roman's house and Taxi Depot are set on fire. Towards the conclusion of the storyline, Mallorie and Roman wed, however in the "Deal" storyline ending her new husband is gunned down outside the church and she becomes widowed. In both storylines, it is revealed that she is pregnant. Prior to the ending of the "Revenge" storyline, Roman contacts Niko both revealing Mallorie's pregnancy and that he has chosen to name his new daughter Kate. Mallorie s maiden name is given as "Bardas" on the Rockstar Games Social Club, but shown to be "Ramos" in the actual game.

Mallorie is voiced by Elena Harvey Hurst.

Vladimir Glebov

Introduced in: "It's Your Call"

Killed in: "Uncle Vlad"

Vladimir "Vlad" Glebov is a Russian loan-shark of the Hove Beach area in Broker. He owns a Bar, called "Comrades" in his neighborhood which he frequents. He is an alcoholic and is shown snorting a vial of cocaine on one occasion. Vlad tries also to gain respect from more influential gangsters and is sometimes hypocritical about the citizens of Liberty. Niko despises Vlad from the start, who treats Roman poorly and refers to Niko as a "yokel". Still, Niko works for Vlad as a favor to Roman. After Niko learns that Vlad has been having sex with Mallorie behind Roman's back, Niko executes him under the Broker Bridge, which gains the attention of Vlad's superior, Mikhail Faustin (though Mihkail thought of Vlad as an idiot and a liability). Roman lies to Mallorie about his death, claiming that he killed Vlad in a fit of rage, and that Niko merely disposed of the body for him.

Vladimir is voiced by Misha Kuznetsov.

Elizabeta Torres

Introduced in: "Luck of the Irish"

Elizabeta Torres is a successful small-time drug dealer in Bohan. However, she knows an upcoming drug crackdown is going to make her life very difficult and with her own narcotic use spiraling out of control she’s becoming increasingly paranoid and delusional. She appears in the third trailer and in the promotional artwork for the game. Although earlier renditions of the artwork depict her as much thinner than her final appearance it is shown on advertisement posters made by Rockstar Games that she is between 5'11-6'2" tall and may weigh between 200-225 pounds. It can also be found out that her age is 31 years old. She introduces you to Packie McReary in the "Luck of the Irish" mission. She shoots Manny in the mission "Have a Heart" after he tries to film her as part of his documentary of the crime in Bohan. After Niko eliminates the bodies of Manny and his cameraman, he receives a call from Elizabeta saying that she's cutting off their relationship because the police are closing in on her. By using the police database website, the player can find out she is in police custody. According to news reports, and the in-game radio, Torres is sentenced to 300 years of imprisonment, for 30 charges of cocaine distribution.

Manny Escuela

Introduced in: "Escuela of the Streets"

Killed in: "Have a Heart"

Manny Escuela is a Puerto Rican former hoodlum who has apparently changed his ways, and now wants to clean up the streets. He operates from a recreational center in a South Bohan housing project. He is currently recording a documentary explaining his struggles and problems. His current occupation is a dance instructor. He hires Niko to kill criminals and afterwards Manny takes the credit, but Manny is upset with the final cut of the documentary, claiming it does not make him look "street." He is killed, along with his cameraman, by Elizabeta Torres after he confronts her for new, more aggressive material for the documentary. The bodies are given to a doctor for the black market organ trade, which Niko finds ironic because Manny will finally help people but in a very different way. It is implied by a Liberty Tree article on a serial killer that the "young dance instructor" found with no head is Manny's.

Playboy X

Introduced in: "Blow Your Cover"

Can be killed in: "The Holland Play"

Trey "Playboy X" Stewart is an African-American gangster. He was introduced to Niko by Elizabeta and he owns a loft in North Holland. He was the protegé of Dwayne Forge, a drug baron and gang leader who was recently released from prison, but Playboy has since moved on without him, fully embracing the new criminal world of materialism that blurs on legitimate. He aspires to achieve things on a personal level first, with giving back to the community being a distant second. Despite this, Niko admits that Playboy pays well and always keeps his word. Playboy eventually pays Niko to work for Dwayne, mainly because he does not want to deal with Dwayne himself anymore. After Niko, on Dwayne's orders, kills the managers of a strip club that Playboy owns, Playboy realizes that his old mentor does not understand the new way business is done and that he is a hinderance to his organization - he asks Niko to kill him. Dwayne, sensing he is a target, asks Niko to kill Playboy. Niko must choose whom to kill. If the player kills Dwayne, Playboy pays Niko a large sum of money but cuts all ties to him, similar to what he did to Dwayne in the past. If the player kills Playboy X, his flat in North Holland becomes a new safehouse for the player and Dwayne becomes a friend.

Mikhail Faustin

Introduced in: "Crime and Punishment"

Killed in: "Master and the Molotov"

Mikhail Faustin is a major figure in Liberty City's Bratva and the owner of the cabaret club Perestroika. He is 45-years old and has a wife, Ilyena, and a daughter, Anna. Due to alcohol and drug abuse, Mikhail goes through angry mood swings, which causes him to order hits on people for very minor things. This upsets his partner and old friend, Dimitri, who realizes that the numerous deaths are bad for business and attracts unwanted attention from the law. Things boil over when Niko unknowingly kills Lenny Petrovic, son of another major Bratva boss, Kenny Petrovic, based on Mikhail's mere suspicion that Lenny was a snitch. Dimitri sets up Niko to assassinate Mikhail, under the promise of protection from Kenny Petrovic to prove that the death should be blamed on Mikhail and that Niko was just a hired gun. Niko executes Mikhail on the roof of Perestroika. His death leaves Ilyena and Anna poor.

Dwayne Forge

Introduced in: "Deconstruction for Beginners"

Can be killed in: "The Holland Play"

Dwayne Forge is the former mentor of Playboy X. He is an old school African-American gangster who used to be a very influential and feared criminal. Ironically, Dwayne always wanted to be a police officer as a youth, but the LCPD did not approve of black police officers in the old days. He also had trouble reading and writing due to a learning disability. Dwayne's father was an abusive, small-time criminal that was killed by drug dealers that he tried to rip-off, but Dwayne felt nothing when he learned of his death. Dwayne soon learned a lot of money was to be had in the drug trade and that he was very good at intimidating people. He soon became the leader of his own drug ring. At the height of his power, Dwayne claims he rented out entire apartments just to have someplace to store all the money his gang was accumulating.

In 1993, Dwayne was arrested on crack distribution charges and sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was recently released, but is disturbed by the world of bling and excess he's found in an underworld that was all about straight business when he left it over a decade ago. He is depressed that his menacing and powerful reputation has been forgotten, even finding out that his girlfriend Cherise left him for another man after Dwayne pulled strings from behind bars to pay her rent over the years. Feeling betrayed, Dwayne is also angry that Playboy X ignores him and excludes him from the gang's business, which is resorting to more high-profile crimes. Niko is paid by Playboy to work for Dwayne, and he ends up sympathizing with Dwayne's plight and helps him rebuild his reputation and influence. After Dwayne pays Niko to shut down a club that he used to own that was taken over by associates of Playboy X, Dwayne and Playboy X call Niko to kill one another, giving him a choice of who to kill. If the player kills Playboy X, Dwayne gives Niko the penthouse of his old protegé and becomes Niko's friend. When hanging out with Dwayne, he comes off as very depressed and he admits that he bottles up his emotions to maintain his tough persona. His special ability for being Niko's friend is sending two gangsters to Niko's location, who provide the player with backup. If the player kills Dwayne, Playboy X pays Niko but never speaks to him again.

Minor Characters

Milica Bellic

Milica Bellic is Niko's mother, who frequently sends emails in the Croatian language to him during the course of the game's storyline. She feels guilty that a good person like Niko was corrupted by the environment that he grew up in.

Darko Brevic

Introduced/Can be killed in: "That Special Someone"

Darko Brevic is the man who betrayed Niko Bellic's old army unit. As a reward for all of Niko's help, Jon Gravelli and U.L. Paper track down Darko in Bucharest, Romania. They kidnap him and bring him to Liberty City where Niko confronts him, discovering that Darko had a drug addiction: he betrayed his friends for a mere $1,000 in order to buy a few more drugs. During the time that has since passed, his addiction has worsened from his overwhelming guilt. Darko then begs Niko to kill him, feeling that it would be better than having to live with his own demons. The player is given the choice of killing him or sparing his life. When choosing to not kill Darko, Niko states that he feels that allowing him to live his guilt-ridden life is a worse punishment than death. If Niko kills Darko, Darko thanks him with his dying breath and Niko does not feel any better.

Kate McReary

Introduced in: "Harboring a Grudge"

Dies in: "Mr. and Mrs. Bellic" (Revenge)

Kate McReary is Packie McReary's sister. She shows a great deal of romantic interest in Niko. This is expressed several times during the course of the game.

She can be taken out on dates as with the other women in the game, but unlike the other girlfriends you are unable to sleep with her. If Niko chooses the "Deal" storyline, Kate sees that he will compromise his principles for money and refuse to see him again. If he takes the "Revenge" storyline, Pegorino, in revenge for killing Dimitri and not going through with the drug deal, attacks Roman's wedding and kills Kate.

Gracie Ancelotti

Introduced in: "I'll Take Her..."

Gracie Ancelotti is the daughter of Giovanni Ancelotti, boss of the Ancelotti crime family. Gerry McReary orders her kidnapped, in order to bargain with the Ancelottis for money. Niko kidnaps her after responding to a For Sale ad she posted online for her pink Feltzer. After Niko test drives her car, he drives her to the safehouse to kidnap her. On the way, she tries to wrestle control of the steering wheel from him, and is subsequently knocked out by Niko. After she is returned to her family, she can be encountered outside her home, where she recognizes Niko, and orders some mobsters to attack him.

Rodislav Bulgarin

Introduced in: "Russian Revolution"

Rodislav "Ray" Bulgarin is a Russian mobster who used to be in charge of a human smuggling ring across the Mediterranean Sea. Niko used to work under him. He claims that Niko stole money from him, and although Niko denied any theft, Bulgarin did not believe him, causing Niko to flee. Once Bulgarin found out that Niko fled to America, he sealed an alliance with the Liberty City Bratva, now led by Dimitri, which would help him to find his target. Niko escapes the first attempt on his life by Dimitri and Bulgarin's men early in the game. Later, Bulgarin kidnaps Roman and holds him hostage in a warehouse. Niko enters the warehouse, kills Bulgarin's men and frees Roman. Bulgarin appears later on disrupting a ransom made by the McReary family for the life of Gracie Ancelotti.

Dardan Petrela

Introduced in: "Three's A Crowd"

Killed in: "Bleed Out"

Dardan Pretela is an Albanian loan-shark. He works along with fellow goons, Bledar Morina and Kalem Vulaj. First, Niko breaks his arm in the mission 'Three's A Crowd', and then chases him down and kills him with a knife (or it is possible for the the protagonist to kick him out the window). After his goons beat up Roman at a basketball court. His death leaves Roman debt free with the Albanians.

Bledar Morina

Bledar Morina is an Albanian money lender operating in Broker. He is a fitness enthusiast. Niko beats him up on a basketball court and he is never heard from again.

Morina is voiced by Gregory Korostishevsky.

Gerry McReary

Introduced in: "Three Leaf Clover"

Gerald "Gerry" McReary is the boss of the Liberty City Irish Mob. He gives orders through his younger brother, Packie. Gerry is upset with the McReary Family's weakened state, which has them working as hired guns for the Italian mafia and other organizations, because they used to be the most powerful gang in the city. He does not trust Niko at first because he is not Irish, but changes his mind after Niko helps the McReary Family with a daring bank heist. Gerry then tasks Niko with attacking other criminal organizations to prove that the McReary Family still has power. Throughout the course of the game, he is released from prison, and subsequently rearrested.

Derrick McReary

Introduced in: "Three Leaf Clover"

Can be killed in: "Blood Brothers"

Derrick McReary is yet another member of McReary Family and seemingly the oldest. He has a drug and alcohol problem, so Packie asks Niko to keep an eye out for his brother's safety. Derrick has recently returned from Ireland where he assisted the IRA in fighting the British. Two of Derrick's old friends, Bucky Sligo and Aiden O'Malley, believed that Derrick snitched on them to the authorities and constantly threatened him and his family as result, despite Derrick's claims of innocence. The false accusations from his former friends caused him tremendous grief and fueled his drug addictions. He seems to be the most compassionate of all the McReary children, as is shown with the way he tries to calm down the bank staff and customers during the heist. When his brother, Francis, discovers that Derrick is back in town, he worries that he will reveal Francis' corruption to the press for money. He talks with Derrick in a park as part of an attempt to use Niko to kill him, thinking that he must go outside the law to take down his brother. Niko has a choice of who to kill. The player does not receive anything from Derrick for killing Francis.

Michelle/Karen

Introduced in: "Three's a Crowd"

Michelle, real name Karen, is Niko's first girlfriend. She eventually reveals that she is a government official named Karen and confiscates Elizabeta's cocaine. She works for U.L. Paper and it is hinted that Karen may also be an alias. After she reveals her true identity to Niko, she can no longer be dated. She is revealed to be a smoker and may also have a criminal past, as hinted by the boss at U.L. Paper.

Kiki Jenkins

Kiki is a 32 year old woman who can be dated via online matchmaker "Love-meet". She has blond hair, and is very interested in fashion. She is currently employed at Goldberg lawyer offices. Kiki makes very good money, but feels very guilty making it. She often tells Niko that she wants to help the world, and can also be very depressing with her stories. If the player chooses to dump Kiki, she will send them texts via Niko's cell claiming she misses him and she loves him, however, she will not text you if you dump her (by injuring her or etc...). She is one of the more psychotic girlfriends in the game, and has a huge liking of Niko. Her special tribute for being Niko's girlfriend is removing a wanted level up to 3 stars.

Carmen Ortiz

Carmen is a woman who can be dated via online matchmaker "Love-meet". She has brown hair, and is very interested in fashion. Carmen likes to refer to herself in third person. She is very self-centered, and in dialogs, may attempt to persuade Niko into buying her expensive luxuries, though he always refuses. She will claim to have breast implants and many other boyfriends. Carmen is a nurse, although she wishes to pursue a higher career as a celebrity. She seems to be bisexual, since her Love-Meet profile says her sexuality is "Free Spirit". Her special tribute for being Niko's girlfriend is giving him health advice over the phone which will restore his life bar.

Alex

Alex is a woman who can be dated via online website "craplist". She has blonde hair, and is very interested in blogging.

Kalem Vulaj

Kalem Vulaj is an Albanian goon who works for the Petrela-Morina gang. He's beaten up by Niko in a playground fight. He is not seen again during the storyline.

Luca Silvestri

Introduced in: "Taking in the Trash"

Killed in: "Meltdown"

Luca Silvestri is a waste collector with ties to the Pegorino crime family. As part of a plan to smuggle diamonds for Ray Boccino, Luca and his two fellow waste collectors, Joe DiLeo and John Barbosa - along with Niko - were assigned to pick up garbage bags secretly filled with the diamonds. When Niko departs, Luca and the rest of his crew keep the diamonds for themselves and plan to start a new life in Las Venturas. Ray finds out and sends Niko to kill them. Luca and his crew try to escape, but crash their car in Middle Park. Luca retreats to a public restroom stall, where Niko corners him, fatally shoots him in the neck and retrieves the diamonds.

Joe DiLeo

Introduced in: "Taking in the Trash"

Killed in: "Meltdown"

Joseph "Joey Tuna" DiLeo is another waste collector who was part of Luca's plan to keep Ray Boccino's stolen diamonds for themselves. He is killed by Niko during a shootout in Middle Park.

John "Johnny Spaz" Barbosa is another waste collector who stole diamonds from Ray Boccino. He is killed by Niko during a shootout in Middle Park.

Cherise Glover

Cherise Glover was Dwayne's longtime girlfriend. Before he went to prison, he gave Cherise everything she wanted. While he was in jail, Dwayne even managed to pull some strings to help Cherise pay her rent. Upon release however, he learns that Cherise has forgotten him and is dating Jayvon, a known snitch, and they have been spending Dwayne's money together. Niko volunteers to get Dwayne's money back and kill Jayvon. Upon approaching Cherise and Jayvon, the player can choose to either kill Cherise or let her live. If the player lets Cherise live, Dwayne tells Niko that while he thinks that Cherise is an idiot, he is glad she is not dead. Later in the game, the player may bump into Cherise on the streets, who tells Niko her new boyfriend hits her. Upon hearing this, Niko goes to the boyfriend's house and intimidates him, warning him never to go near Cherise again.

Ivan Bytchkov

Can be killed in '"Ivan the Not so Terrible"

Ivan Bytchkov is a Russian burglar based in Hove Beach. Vlad Glebov orders Niko to execute him by Mikhail Faustin's command. Can be killed or left alive. If left alive, he is later encountered on the streets. Ivan is engaged, lives in Alderney, and has a new job as a "money lender." Niko helps Ivan collect a debt from several thugs who choose not to repay Ivan. After killing the thugs. Niko and Ivan part ways as Ivan gives Niko some cash.

Gordon Sargent

Gordon Sargent is an associate of the Liberty City declining Irish Mob. He robs, along with Packie McReary, Michael Keane and Niko, the Ancelotti crime family Waste Management Office. Gordon is later assigned to keep watch over the kidnapped Gracie Ancelotti. He is voiced by David Conley

Anthony Corrado

Introduced in "Pegorino's Pride"

Killed in "Flatline"

Tony Corrado is connected with the Liberty City Cosa Nostra. He is revealed by Pegorino, who he is bodyguard for, to be wearing a wire and working for the FIB. He suffers a heart attack whilst preparing to testify against Pegorino, and is placed under maximum secrity at a hospital, which Niko is forced to infiltrate in order to silence him.

Robert Funaro, Eugene Pontecorvo of The Sopranos, gave his physics and voice to this character.

United Liberty Paper

Introduced in: "Wrong is Right"

United Liberty Paper, also known as U.L. Paper or simply U.L.P.C., is a front for a shadowy government agency that denies any affiliation to existing branches such as the FIB or N.O.O.S.E. Niko's contact is a presumed government agent who is revealed as Michelle's superior. Niko is blackmailed into performing reconnaissance and assassination missions for him or risk exposure to local law enforcement. The contact never reveals his true name although it is later revealed that he may have been in the Army at one point. He promises Niko to use his resources to help locate the man he is trying to find as an additional incentive in working with them. The name is used merely a reference to the United Liberty Paper Company he uses as a front. U.L. Paper is also the text listing for the number as it appears in Niko's cell phone.

Michael Keane

Introduced in: "Waste Not Want Knots"

Dies in: "Three Leaf Clover"

Mikey Keane, sometimes called Saint Michael, is an associate of the McReary Family. He is often called stupid by his cohorts, who accuse him of being inbred. He helps Packie and Niko rob the Ancelotti crime family on Colony Island. Later, he helps them rob the bank with Derrick McReary, but one of the hostages reveals a hidden gun and shoots him. Packie laments his death, wishing he had been nicer to Michael.

He is voiced by Pete O'Connor

Clarence Little

Clarence Little is a drug dealer based in East Holland. Niko is sent to kill him by Francis McReary. His life can be spared if the player chooses, only for Clarence to appear later and threaten to blackmail Niko, after which he is promptly killed.

Real Badman

Introduced in: "Shadow"

Teafore "Real Badman" Maxwell-Davies is a Caribbean cannabis dealer and an associate of Little Jacob. He speaks Jamaican Patois, as opposed to Jacob's Rastafarian English. As a result, Jacob acts as his translator. He is introduced to Niko in the mission "Shadow" when he complains about another dealer moving in on his turf. He asks Niko to get rid of these dealers for him so he can continue business as usual. After "Shadow", he can be met on the streets as a "random character mission", where he and Niko go to take out a gang of rivaling drug dealers.

Tom Goldberg

Introduced/Killed in: Final Interview

Tom Goldberg is a lawyer working for Goldberg, Ligner & Shyster, a law firm based in Liberty City. Niko receives a phone call from police officer Francis McReary asking him to kill Tom Goldberg in addition to retrieving evidence that Goldberg has collected against him. Niko is instructed to submit a fake résumé to Goldberg, Ligner & Shyster using the game's internet browser at TW@, an internet cafe, in addition to acquiring a suit if he doesn't have one yet. When Niko arrives for his scheduled interview, the player can allow Goldberg to ramble on a bit about video game violence before revealing that he's been sent by McReary. Niko takes the evidence on McReary and then assassinates Goldberg before making an escape. This event is eventually reported through the in-game internet news service. The character may be a parody of Jack Thompson.

Lola Del Rio

Lola is a prostitute who appears on promotional artwork for the game. In October 2007, her character art was painted on the side of a building in SoHo, New York, advertising the game.

There is a rumour circulating GTA communities, that Lola can be found in Star Junction and also at the docks, on the third island Algonquin. A prostitute by the name of Lola Del Rio can be found in the police database, visiting www.libertycitypolice.com from one of he three internet cafés in Liberty City. Her profile in the database describes that she was born in San Fierro (second city of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas) but moved to Liberty City. It also states that she is often seen sucking a lollipop, and that she hangs around at Star Junction. Recently, a pic arose in a community, where a prostitute sucking a lollipop, and highly similar to the artwork of Lola was picked up by a player.

Giovanni Ancelotti

Neapolitan born, Giovanni Ancelotti is the reputed boss of the Ancelotti crime family. Due to his age his orders are given through his daughter, Gracie.

Jon Gravelli

Introduced in "Entourage"

Dies after "Out of Comminission"/"A Revenger's Tragedy"

Jon Gravelli is an old school and well connected Mob boss who is currently a patient in Schottler Medical Center. He is introduced to Niko via cellphone through his contact at U.L. Paper who is referred to as a "mutual friend". It is through his and U.L Paper's assistance that Niko is able to have Darko Brevic delivered to him. After Niko has taken his revenge on Dimitri or Jimmy Pegorino, Gravelli passes away in hospital, prior to standing trial.

Kenny Petrovic

Kenny Petrovic is a South Broker based Russian mob boss. While not seen in the single-player missions, he is on the LCPD computer system and is described as possibly the most powerful Russian mob boss in the country. His organization is seemingly at peace with Mikhail Faustin's organzation until Faustin orders Kenny's son killed. Kenny is prepared to go to war and kill those responsible, but Dimitri strikes a deal with him in which Niko would kill Mikhail.

Kenny is actually prominent in the multi-player section of the game. He appears in the multi-player missions Mafya Work and Team Mafya Work. In these missions, the player must obey Petrovic's orders, protect him from rival mobsters and take care of Kenny's "black list."

Lenny Petrovic

Leonid "Lenny" Petrovic is the son of Kenny Petrovic and working for Mikhail Faustin. He is suspected of betraying Faustin and Niko is, on a whim, ordered to kill him. After assassinating Lenny, Dimitri reveals that only by killing Faustin can Niko be spared by Kenny Petrovic for killing his son. However, as it is revealed to be an attempt by Dimitri to gain control of Faustin's entire organization, it is possible that Dimitri arranged for Lenny's death as well.

Bernie Crane / Florian Cravic

Introduced in: "Weekend at Florian's"

Bernie Crane, real name Florian Cravic, is the person that Niko tracked down to America. He served with Niko in the Bosnian War and is one of the two men that Niko suspects betrayed his old army unit. In return for Niko's help, Pegorino crime family capo Ray Boccino locates a man named Talbot that knows Cravic, who leads Niko to Cravic's apartment. After a tense encounter, Niko soon realizes that Cravic is not the culprit. In fact, Cravic has changed his name to Bernie and is a very stereotypical gay man that works as a life coach. He moved to Liberty City because he would be discriminated against in the old country if he came out as gay. Bernie is amazed that Niko is still haunted by the betrayal that occurred so many years ago, which Roman says is proof that Niko needs to let go of the past and move on. Bernie eventually asks for Niko's help, such as killing a murderous homophobic man harassing him in the park. He is dating conservative Deputy Mayor Bryce Dawkins (who, ironically, built his political career on family values) behind Mrs. Dawkins' back.

Andrei Utraniyev

Introduced/Killed in: "Crime and Punishment"

Andrei Utraniyev is a henchman for the South Broker Bratva who originally hails from Vladivostok. He is sent by Mikhail to find and detain the cousins Bellic after the death of Vlad, Mikhail's subordinate. He ties Niko and Roman up in Mikhail's basement and interrogates them, believing they work for a rival crime syndicate. He threatens to sever their limbs off with a saw, but Roman's constant screaming brings Mikhail down to the basement, angry that Andrei is doing something so brutal when his wife is in the house. After Niko admits that he killed Vlad simply because he was an "asshole," Mikhail takes Niko's advice and shoots Andrei in the face. Dimitri later laments Andrei's death because he was very loyal and a part of Mikhail's organization for a long time.

Isaac Roth

Introduced in "Museum Piece"

Killed in: "Late Checkout"

Isaac Roth is an Hasidic Jew and a diamond dealer. He deals with "blood diamonds", which is illegal. After a deal in the Libertonian Museum goes awry and the diamonds in question are lost in the fracas, Ray Boccino and Isaac blame each other (in fact, the Ancelotti crime family sabotaged the deal). Ray sends Niko to the Majestic Hotel to kill him.

Julio Ochoa

Julio Ochoa is the Mayor of Liberty City. He is absent throughout the course of the game, although he is mentioned and referenced during missions and on in-game media.

Bryce Dawkins

Bryce Dawkins is the Deputy Mayor of Liberty City. He is said to be ultra conservative, and "enjoys ramming family values down your throat while taking it from behind with two in one hole". Due to his extreme gun control policies, owning or selling of firearms in Liberty City is either illegal or extremely difficult, forcing most to resort to black market sellers like Little Jacob. Despite being married, he is in fact gay and dating Bernie Crane. In return for protecting Bernie from Dimitri Rascalov, Bernie gives Niko an Infernus sports car, which was given to him by Bryce.

Ashley Anderson

Ashley is a 20 year old woman who is very good friends with Niko's friend Brucie. She has long blonde hair, and can be taken helicopter riding and boating. Ashley can not be dated by Niko, but can be taken out along with Brucie and Jessica.

Jessica

Jessica is a 23 year old woman with brown hair, and often wears a hat. She is one of the two girls Niko can take helicopter riding, and boating with Brucie. Jessica can never be dated, but has a huge liking of Brucie.

Thomas Stubs III

Thomas Stubs III is the corrupt congressman of Liberty City State. He is currently facing allegations surrounding pork barrel spending. He has been criticized by Liberty City's media on his attempts to get a major Tsunami protection plan and avalanche warning system in place for the city.

Marco

Muscle for Jimmy Pegorino. Often lambasted by his boss for his stupidity. He is killed by Pavanos hitmen in the mission "Pegorino's Pride".

Pete

Pete is another muscle for Jimmy Pegorino. He is also killed by Pavanos hitman in the mission "Pegorino's Pride".

Jeff

Jeff is one of the random characters met on the street by Niko. When first encountered, Jeff asks Niko to tail his wife as he believes that she is cheating on him. Niko photographs her eating with another man but thinks Jeff is overreacting. Jeff later calls Niko back, since he ended up killing his wife in a jealous rage and asks Niko to dispose of the body. He remarries, but suspects his new wife is also cheating on him. Jeff is killed by a car as he walks across the street to confront his wife.

Eddie Low

Eddie Low is a deranged serial killer, who is encountered twice by Niko. On their first meeting, Low acts in a highly suspicious manner, but Niko agrees to take him and his suspect package to the docks, where Low disposes of it, for money. The second encounter leads to Low pulling a knife on Niko, forcing Niko to execute him. After Eddie's death, a news report is added to the in-game websites, where the police chief expresses disappointment at not being able to come up with a suitable media name for Low, due to the random nature of his killings, and his wanton mutilation of corpses.

Brian Meech

Brian Meech is another random character, who is a crack addict and roams the streets. Occassionally, the player may spot and deal with him.
