John Kroger
John Kroger is a professor at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland and candidate for Oregon Attorney General of the U.S. state of Oregon in 2008.
Kroger is a graduate of Yale College and Harvard Law School and served in the United States Marine Corps. Before teaching law, he was a Deputy Policy Director of Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign, legislative assistant to U. S. Representative Tom Foley (D–WA) and U. S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), senior policy analyst at the U.S. Treasury Department, and a federal prosecutor. As a prosecutor, Kroger won the Director's Award from then-Attorney General Janet Reno, worked on the emergency response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, and served on the Justice Department's Enron Task Force. He lives in Portland.[1][2]
On September 20, 2007 John Kroger announced his candidacy for Oregon Attorney General. Kroger has been endorsed by former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber,[3] the Sierra Club,[4] Oregon Small Business for Responsible Leadership, and the Carpenters Union.[5] He defeated Democrat Greg Macpherson in the May 20, 2008 primary election. No Republican candidate filed for the race, so Kroger, as the winner of the primary, is expected to assume the office.[6][7] An unofficial survey of Republican write-in votes by the The Oregonian indicates he probably won the Republican nomination as well.[8]
His book, Convictions: A Prosecutor's Battles Against Mafia Killers, Drug Kingpins, and Enron Thieves[9] was published in May 2008 by FSG.
